Some pretty funny climbing desktop wallpaper for download at http://getbeta.com/...liss_Peabody_800.bmp More sizes available in the "Everything else" forum The wallpaper is a spoof on Microsoft's bliss wallpaper popular with XP users, it has the Grandma and Grandpa Peabody boulders (Buttermilks) super imposed on the infamous grassy knoll. Now thats Bliss

Wow, yet another route database on the web. What use is it to have multiple databases? I think there needs to be some kind of open source database that gets shared by all these various websites (rc.com, getbeta.com, climbingboulder.com, etc.).

Having a database is just one part of a good climbing web site and there's a lot more than just a routes database at GetBeta. Check out all of the features before generalizing. Plus, if you post some feedback on what more you'd like to see, it will probably show up.

New stuff-------------------------------------------------------- * Another new look, to facilitate better viewing & navigation of the site. * You can now view images that have been submitted to the guide the same way you view gallery images. (Under "The Guide" menu Request--------------------------------------------------------- We'd need some more photos on the site as well as some video to test the functionality of that feature. If you got either of these we'd love to see them. regards Matt Check it out http://getbeta.com

Submit your climbing related photos to the Gallery through the month of October and become eligible to win a Logitech 9612340403 Digital Camera Point and Shoot - 1.3 Megapixels ($150 value). Only photos received during October are eligible for the contest. Voting for the winner will take place during the first week of November, when a ballot will be made available. A winner will be determined by the number of votes they receive, the photo receiving the most votes wins. Members can only vote once, but can submit as many different photos as they like. Votes will be tallied in real time and will be displayed on the contest page next to the photo allowing you to see how well your photo is doing right up until the voting is completed. The prize will be awarded to the person submitting the photo that received the most votes. In the event of a tie Get Beta staff will select the winner. http://getbeta.com

RANKING PHOTOS Members can now rank photos found on Get Beta. To submit a rank make sure you are logged in. Then click the photo thumbnail to be taken to the photo detail page. There you will see either a form allowing you to rank the photo or if you have already ranked the photo you'll see a message indicating the rank you gave. We are also tracking the number of views a photo gets in the detail page. This will give members an idea of how popular their photos are with other members. SCORING MEMBERS The idea of scoring members based on their contributions was brought up a while ago and we finally got around to putting it together. You can now view a member's score from the home page andl soon be able to view it in their profile information. Scores are weighted based on the value of the information. Locations = 500 pts Areas = 300 Sections / Boulders = 150 Routes = 75 Beta = 50 Photos = 100 DECEMBER PHOTO CONTEST Don't forget to get your photo submissions in to the gallery for a chance to win the digital camera. moroneyk has been cleaning up the last couple of months and needs some competition. There are currently no entries so obviously your chances at winning are High. Thanks for the ideas keep em coming. Matt
