desertwanderer81 wrote: The reason why it'll never catch on as an olympic sport is because A) the holds are entirely contrived and B) you could never do it on natural rock because the people who practiced on the specific climbs that were in the olympics would have a huge advantage. Although I guess that didn't stop them from making kayaking an olympic sport :p The kayak courses in the Olympics, even if on a natural river, are manufactured. http://ww.pennnet.com/...rse-pumping-station/

Basketball is played in a court. Hockey is played in a rink. Running can be done wherever and is a fairly consistant operation (at least from the layman's point of view). Climbing is not done on a plywood wall with plastic holds.

I'd like to see the list that recognizes this as a sport Hey dude, fuck you. I was captain of my school's team for 2 years - and I can say that Curling is most certainly a real sport! A real shitty, boring, and tedious sport - but hell, it got me colours.

I would think all you people excited about climbing in various states of undress would be all over this...and totally doable. As a past denizen of the dive pool, I will say that jumping off a platform IS different than jumping off a wall, but I'm sure some crazies can figure out a way. We could see the real meaning of 'falling gracefully.' Easily filmed, aesthetically appealing, with just enough adrenaline...great idea! I wonder if the Chinese would still dominate though... ls Of course they would! Quite a few east Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans) and southeast Asians (Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodians, Laotians, etc.) have killer strength-to-weight ratios!
