the most important question to ask is what will you be using it for and where ...

ALL certified climbing ropes will work ... i mean they climbed some pretty crazy stuff for many years without fancy ropes ...

but some do work better than others for certain applications ...

the pretzels have had some durability issues in the past so i hear ... on the other hand i have a few partners with em who use them hard with no issues ...

agreed, would be a rope for TR for when i take new climbers out for a day of top roping or when i find a more experienced climber / one with balls to rope gun up a line i'm projecting and am too scared to lead.

in my experience, new climbers don't like to have too mcuh static elongation and when i'm projecting something i don't like falling and then having to climb 6 streneous moves to get back to the one that keeps beating me.

But must be somewhat dynamic...otherwise wouldn't it hurt your back when you fell?

Price is an issue not too interested in spending anything large

i use the 85$ one ... youre going to wreck ropes top roping ... as to newbies no liking to fall a few feet ... like i said pretension the rope, or use a static rope with no slack in the system

if you have $$$$$ then any of those fancy 10mm+ ropes will work

youre going to get stretch if you fall on a dynamic rope ... period ... people simply have to get used to that ...

i have a mammut galaxy which people generally agree is "not as stretchy" as some of the others ... guess what when someone falls on TR on it it still stretches ...

or use one of your older ropes in good conditions where the elasticity is reduced ... thats what climbing gyms do in their TR areas

What's all this talk about n00bs? How long have you been in the game?

I'm kinda inclined to still call you one, all things considered.

ive climbed on them ... IMO they are no better than the 85$ rope ... they start stiff and keep getting stiffer ... if yr leading using an assisted locking device, it isnt ideal
