is this invite for people known by you folks, or can any PA climber come? I am curious ,plus the fact I don't have a rack but I do have a car, and live on the way for some areas (car pool anyone?drive to me I'll drive the rest of the way ). I can follow 5.10 but more experienced would consider me a noob due to my lack of trad climbing . I am very interested sounds like a good way to meet you folks

No worries, guys. In the past it has been called the PA Gathering but folks from all around are totally welcome to come. You know how they say, the best climbing in PA is in NY... Anyway, Gail, I'm probably in with Kurt, but we'll most likely be camping. I'll let you know about meals. Maybe this will get moved to Gatherings by a mod.

Gail Count me in for sure. Olivier can only climb Saturday, so hopefully there's someone who needs a belay slave or someone to swap leads on easy routes on Sunday. If there's space for just Friday night, Olivier would take it, else he'll join us for the climbing and the beer. Ed

The PA gunks gathering is cool and all, but why don't we have the PA climbers gathering in PA? There are plenty of great places to host it! Just seems logical....

Once again I need to issue my warning that this is the SINGLE BUSIEST weekend at the Gunks each year. It is the cosmic convergence of Columbus Day weekend, leaf season (although it's actually maybe a bit early for that this year so you might catch a break) and the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. The Gunks will be a zoo. I suggest moving it to another weekend. TS

Tim's probably right, but it's always been a great time anyway. Besides finding cheap sleeps is harder during this busy time! So you can count me in Gail. Mark

I do not have the hostel pricing at this point, I will update ASAP. is'nt EVERY weekend a Pa Gathering at the Gunks? :)

Count me out for the 5th-7th ... unfortunately, I have committed myself to other activities that weekend. Why did I tell you this? Because I'm moving to PA this week (Aug. 9) and I want to speak up so that I might be able to meet some of you folks soon. I'll be living in the H'burg/Lanc area and looking to climb both locally, gunks, and seneca. OK, back to your planning ...

Gail, FYI - I stayed at the Hostel recently, and I don't know if they'll be willing to relax the "no alcohol" restriction; they quite pointedly made sure that I knew. Might want to give them a call to be sure. Tai

I'm from Colorado, but I would love to join you all for the Gunks Gathering. I'd like to stay at the hostel and share the group meals if there's still room. I'm interviewing at Albany Medical College, and the Gunks is only 70 miles away, so I'd love to check it out.

I can't make it that weekend unfortunately. I would have liked to meet some climbers from the PA area. I am a transplant from Buffalo. I have to admit, the 2 hour drive to the Gunks beats the 6 hours it used to take, but I have no partners out here. I have to coax the Buffalo Crew out every weekend, and thats hard work. Have Fun, John

So which weekend is it? In the RC.com calendar it lists two different dates under one entry! Can you edit all original posts to contain the correct date? BTW, Why were the dates changed?

The dates for the PA Gathering ar October 26th-October 28th. The reason for the date change is because the hostel forgot to write it in the reservations book.

Glytch, There is plenty of room. I have added you to the list. Gail Welcome to PA. Be sure to check out the Climb and Clean at Birdsboro on October 12th-October 14th. (See events, or look up Birdsboro in the routes section under southeastern PA).

mitchal wrote: Only six beds left folks! Let us know if you want one. Can't wait to see you all! Where is Darkside? Well right now I'm surfing the forums, something I rarely do these days other than occasionally checking the Canada forum. Location wise, I'm still in Alberta just now but fly to Vegas later today for a week in RR. I haven't been in the east for a couple years now but I have some pretty good memories from v1 thru v3. So here's a shout out to all the old crew, chilly days, social nights, and cool times at the PA gatherings. Sounds like a bit of a bummer with the hostel - forgetting bookings, alcohol bans, and guest only rules!! Here's hoping he relaxes a little by when the time comes. If any of the old crew find themselves in the Canadian Rockies anytime, please give me a shout. For what it's worth, by the time you do v5.0, I should be scratching up early season ice, with a bit of luck. BTW editing the title may get you additional attention instead of the Oct 5-7 date. - bump. Enjoy folks.

OK so I know I havn't paid yet, but I'm still going, I've been messed around by forecasts often enough to know better than cancel plans. Sunday looks better, fingers crossed. If anyone needs a ride up, let me know, I'm leaving Friday evening from Spring House (Rt 309). Ed
