I don't think so, I think that you must check in with the park service in town before you climb, if i remember they looked over our gear (This was 10 yrs ago)
It might be a good idea to give them a call before going out on the rock.

Do you need a permit to climb at Harpers Ferry?

You may get an answer on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dcoutdoorrockclimbing/ I know some people from that board have climbed recently there. I also second climberboy's recomendation about meeting people on that board. I met and climbed with some people from the board and they were pretty cool. I'm also looking to climb periodically in the Maryland area and frequently at Seneca, Franklin and NRG. I'll try and keep my profile up to date in terms of my current climbing ability and interest.

Peace

David

no, a permit is not required to climb at harpers ferry. however, the park service does ask that you sign in & out at the park office & be off of the rock by 5pm? or is it sunset? check with the rangers to be sure.
