In reply to: So, boogah, as the official starter and therefore judge, who is winning so far? (I'm still trying to catch mark in his toiwt spandex :P) -Magnus I'm not sure there are any winners here.

From the photo, I wasn't entirely certain if that was a he or she. I'm mean, kind of a mannish face, but nice shaven legs. But kind mannish. And then I read the caption. I weep, WEEP, for his friends and loved ones.

I've really been watching in my travels around Europe, ever since booger started this thread. It's hard when you do see someone to get their picture without them knowing your taking their picture. This guy was at the Vicosoprano campground. He walked by as I was cooking dinner and I had to grab my camera. Unfortunately the pic sucks, but when I saw him the first time his sweater wasn't so far down and these pants were pretty butt-hugging! I saw him in the same pants on a different day, so apparently he really likes them. http://i89.photobucket.com/...bigna/Albigna003.jpg Here's a climber from a crag in Switzerland http://i89.photobucket.com/...ephen/weekend032.jpg This isn't really climbing related, but still good. It was at a ski jump event where they were landing on wet carpet. http://i89.photobucket.com/...ephen/weekend025.jpg

Months ago, I ran a similar thread.. There was great response with some blazing examples of climber's clad in psychedelic threads. Of course, included in this array of blinding multi-colored neon butt-hugging tights, was Curt's timeless/classic photo, a fine figure of a man posing in his pastel pink 80's-ware. (a man who is obviously very comfortable with his sexuality) But.. I feel I must point out a textile Faupax, to avoid any supporters of Dooley's Crusade, accidentally showing up at the crag in a stretched out saggy-bottomed pair of "SPANDEX" tights. It's NOT Spandex.. The ground breaking fashion discovery that led to the colorful (blinding) trend of the 80's was LYCRAŽ Read about a one man crusade to bring Lycra back to the rocks: The Grand Wall http://home.primus.ca/...dwall/freaks/top.jpg First Freak Ascent http://home.primus.ca/...ll/freaks/bottom.jpg http://home.primus.ca/...aks/grandfreaks.html - These days, you need not search through the bowels of some east-end Salvation Army Used Clothing Store to make your statement (and embarrass your partners).. You can order yourself a pair of *custom-made-to-fit* funky tights online! Look no further - -=These are the $h*t =- http://www.runningfunky.com/...es/50states/or/2.jpg http://www.runningfunky.com/

Ouch! I bet somebody careless enough to proclaim having birthday in the near future runs the danger of ending up with a gift coupon now  - Daniel

That is Rich(Chongo) Tucker, and me at Humber park before going climbing at Tahquitz. I do know Alf pretty well though. We used to climb quite a bit at JT, back in the 80s. He is living up in the Indian Creek area now, and resoleing shoes in the area. Cosmiccragsman

You are the dude my man, you could patent "The Dude Look" with this shot 8^) Looks like good times. -Kevin

That Photo was taken back in 1986, so I would have been 33. Rich is a couple years younger than me, so he would have been 29 or 30. I knew and climbed with all the Chongo Brothers. (Rich, Dave, and Chuck) I did not climb as much with Chuck, because he was always traveling, and going down to Mexico to pick up rubber to bring back to Rich and Dave for their resoling venture at JT. I haven't seen Rich or Dave since the early 90s. Does anyone out there Know what happened to them or know what they are doing now? For a comparison of how badly I have aged, Here is a recent pic of me.   http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/...gW6fdcrxkaF4yEPsW7iM Cosmiccragsman

In fact you still have "The Dude" thing going, just a wiser, more traveled Dude with a knee brace now  Funny thing is I am going in next week to get my brace (left knee though). Between the two of us we'll have the makings of a Bionic climber started. The photo's are great, thanks for sharing them! Do you have any other 80's or earlier one kicking around that you wouldn't mind posting?

cosmiccragsman - that must of been a horrible trip for you and your friends. To have one of your buddies hit by and airplane and another swallowed up by some freakish crack entity - my condolences go out to you. It's almost enough sadness to cover up the fact that you guys were donning spandex - almost....
