About Linville River Crag:
There are about 14 routes here, many of which are actually cracks. Weird for NC... The rock is exactly the same type as at Hawksbill. This is a very worthwhile crag if you wish to do a little bit of true wilderness cragging. There is great camping by the river, and a plethera of bouldering to be done as well. |

Directions: | Hike the Connely Cove trail from Kistler Memorial Hwy (west side of gorge) to the river. Turn left and hike north on the Linville Gorge trail for about 5-10 minutes. Just shy of the lower cliff band, turn left and follow a good path for about 200 yards up a subtle ridge and to the cliff. Enter through the chimney that seperates the pinnacle from the wall. Alternative approach is longer but not as steep. Hike the Spence Ridge trail from the esat side of the gorge. Cross the river and hike south, just past the lower cliff band. Follow same path up to cliff. |
