HP40 is one of the best spots around geared for bouldering and boulderers. The camping is cheap and the host of the area is incredibly nice. I got to sit around on the front deck of HP one afternoon and chat with him. He is actually stoked to have "our kind" around. In fact, he purchased the area with the full intent of holding comps such as this. The place will be packed on that weekend, so you may want to call in advance to reserve a spot. The camping is around $3 a night. The website is www.hp40.com. Pull hard. Jamey asanapackworks.com

I thought camping used to be 10/night and I think its only free during the comp if you are a registered competitor and that is for both nights. That is going to be one sweet finale!

I am competing, but I have friends that want to come and spectate.. and you mean to tell me that we are gonna have to get up at 1:00 in the morning to drive 6 hours and them get turned away... I think they should we think that!! Or at least let spectators register in advance!

Hell yeah, I'll be down there Friday night with Greg...Does anybody know a good place to meet up? I don't know the area at all. If cars are parked near the campsite/registration area we could meet up at my car or something (bright, bright blue Subaru, hard to miss). Any better ideas?

Melissa's hat would work for a meeting point. We could all meet by the parking lot about 700 or 730 Saturday morning. I think the comp starts at 800, but don't hold me to that one. I plan on heading down straight from work, so I should be there about 530 or 600 at the latest on Friday night. Looks like the camping is right next to the boulders (as stated on drtopo.com). Better pack warm too, cause it looks to be a blustery day on Saturday.

I think me Jon, and Josh are all tooling down in my 4runner Friday afternoon. Plans are subject to change though. It looks like I'm not going to have an exam conflict for the whole weekend. Outstanding. I'm gonna bring the stuff to set up a slackline. We didn't have one at HE, or at LRC. This one will be good though. Bring extra firewood everyone. It's gonna be COLD! Travis

i just checked www.weather.com and www.accuweather.com They both show clouds and wind for Saturday, but not much of a chance of precipitation. We should be in the clear, cause the rain is suppose to move out by Thursday night.

In reply to: i just checked www.weather.com and www.accuweather.com and if you want a third opinion, check out the National Weather Service at http://www.noaa.gov/. (click here for the Gadsden forecast) and if you want to see the nitty-gritty, click on "Forecast Discussion" under Additional Forecasts & Information at the bottom of the right column

In reply to: it's the fountain of youth, until you cross into tomorrow. Hit that IDL going west, and you cross into "yesterday". If you go fast enough, to beat the sun, you can ALMOST cross into 2 days ago, but sadly it's a physical impossibility. "It's fun to learn, CAUSE KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!" Hahashahaha

when crossing the IDL you advance 24 hours forward, not back. You would go from Tuesday at noon, to Wednesday at 1100 am. going east you would travel 24 hours backwards. but anyway, knowledge is power, and power corrupts, so study hard and be evil.

(ps i think superman actually spun the world in a reverse direction)

i agree. you should make her camp out. especially if that's what you want to do. just have a little campfire, and warm sleeping bags. you will never know its cool outside. for those of you coming down Friday night, and looking to meet up with people, my tent will have christmas lights on it. I thought that would be a good way for people to find a meeting point.

Basically, you will need 3 biners for the tension ratchet 2 length of webbing one as long as you want the line, the other about 4 to 6 feet And a couple assorted slings and biners for extra rigging. There's nothing to setting it up, and taking it down, walking the fokker is the hard part. I've got a couple pictures of JoeSchmoe on the line at Del's. I need to get them scanned.

I've got the ratchet down perfect, it always takes me a minute to remember how to do it just right though. Forty feet would be perfect, that will make a thirty foot line just about right. I'll bring some my hardware, and we'll work it out. Oh yeah IF YOU HAVEN'T READ MY STICKY NOTICE AT THE TOP OF THE 'SOUTH' FORUM, GIVE IT A READ, AND TAKE IT SERIOUS. Figured out if your getting to camp yet melissa?

Hey all, When I talked to Verm last week he was going down to this comp. I talked to him on his cell phone while he was standing in the single malt scotch aisle of a liquor superstore in Colorado. I assisted him in selecting out some Balvenie Double Wood to take down there. So if you run into Verm, give him a bunch of sH!t from me. Also, if you tell him that you know me, he just may share the Double Wood with you--assuming it isn't all gone allready. Haha. Maybe he bought two bottles. Curt

well, it's very cold this morning with the wind chill and the very damp air. looks like it could make for a very good campout. i will have the christmas lights, but no santa suit, sorry sharma. i don't have the build to be santa. besides, only the ladies would be allowed to set on santas knee. anyway, headed down about 100, and looking to have a blast. hope everyone has a safe trip and a great time climbing.
