I am 90% sure I will make it out tomorrow. However, I would be very surprised if I actually get up there at 7:30. Which wall are you guys planning to hit first? I'll just meet you there if I'm late.

In reply to: Last Sunday the group met @ 7:30 left at 8:30 =13 hours of climbing (bring your headlamp) Its not how many hours of climbing; rather its how much climbing in the time you're there. Big groups = little climbing.

In reply to: Big groups = little climbing. At Williamson, the great outdoor gym? Nah. Hopefully we'll have several ropes and get a few groups going at once. At least it seemed like that's what you guys were doing last weekend, although I saw you only briefly. How many ropes will we have? I can bring a 60 and plenty of draws.

Depends on how many routes are available. What's not true? More hours of climbing does not necessarily equal more climbing. Big groups tend to be far less efficient for getting lots of climbing done. Yes, the number of routes available will have a big impact on how much you can get done. And a large group of climbers that are not climbing at high standard will run out of routes in a particular area pretty quick.

mc82 - Not to worry, I'll be able to find the way. I was just hoping if I played stupid someone would offer up a ride. No luck however. Matt - Enjoy the grad ceremony!! Wear you harness and beanie under the cap and gown and it'll make you think you're climbing. :D maurice

I just want to get on the rock and having Willi so close makes that possible. I get to spend good times with great climbers so I think i can sacrifice quality of routes and crowded areas. Yes it feels like an outdoor gym, but I like seeing people I know. Old school climbers get this burr up their butt when it comes to quantity of people out at a crag. Yes, I agree that Williamson is better in the fall and early spring when there is a little snow on the ground and the people are few and far between but for what it is it provides good rock for beginners and weekend warriors. For those of you who knock us who like to go to Williamson, its all a matter of time, money (i'm not going to fork over large amounts of gas money to drive extremely far for one weekend.), and experience. I'm a noob who finds the experience at Williamson one to work on my technique and endurance. Sport climbing may not be for all but for those of us just starting out it works. Yes, I love trad climbing and long multi-pitch routes but I also love hanging out with friends and just being on the rock. Flame on.

we had 9 last weekend and i think everyone got in all the climbing they wanted for the day. we ended up breaking up into smaller groups of like 2 or 3 depending and how hard you wanted to climb and everyone went and did their own thing and climbed what they wanted so no one ran out of stuff to climb. everyone just brought what ever gear they had and we had 5 ropes i think for 9 people so we had a couple that weren't being used at times. there's plenty of routes to pick from, it was good fun and good climbing. thats all that matters to me. looking forward to tomorrow. -jason

I'm a noob who finds the experience at Williamson one to work on my technique and endurance. Williamson is a pretty good crag. Maybe not a destination, but you could do a lot worse. The climbing is very technical; if you can figure out how to climb at Williamson you can figure out how to climb just about anywhere there is face climbing. The biggest drawback is probably the lack of steepness, which makes it hard to train strength there. With routes up to 13b, the place isn't just for n00bs, either. -Jay

Hi everybody, I'm new in this area, but your trip sounds like great fun for me. Would be a great pleasure for me to join you on saturday. I've never been climbing in Williamson, so maybe there's someboby comming from my area (San Pedro)? We could meet somewhere. Looking forward, Matthias.

For all those who have hijacked this tread to make it " Lets bash Williamson" please refrain and save that for another day. This thread's purpose is to bring together those who would like to join me and others climbing on the weekends at Williamson. I didn't post this to debate the quality or merit of the routes, but to provide a thread for us to put together a group that can enjoy a day climbing together. So if you want to talk about another area, bash Willi, or debate route quality I would be very thankful if you did it somewhere else. Climb on and be safe. Becki

Matthias, talk to Rob or Jason...they're sorta kinda near you. They might be willing to lend a ride in exchange for some gas $$. Hope to see you up there...bright and early! :) And don't forget the headlamp!
