What you have for projects gabe? maybe we should compare lists to see what we could work on together.. my pool game is decent.. though i've been struggling lately at 8 ball due to too much straight pool practice.. i'll have to work on that.

Let's talk when we get there. Easier than all the back and forth required online. But sure, I bet there's some overlap. GO

I'm looking for some input. Rachel and I are trying to expand our rack to include some smaller cams. We like the #2 C3 we have but to load up on those is going to get expensive. I'm sure most Aliens are fine but I won't buy them b/c of recent history. Does anyone have any input on other brands that they've used? I'd like to get a couple of pieces before we head to Acadia for 4th of July. Thanks!

hukton, I've been happy with my Rock Empire Flex cams. I've got three of those, as well as a Trango Flex. I've also got a couple Cassin Can Cams that work pretty well. I had 3 can cams, but I mananged to fix one at cathedral last fall. of the three brands, I like the trangos the best. the cassins are very lightest, but have the stiffest return springs. all three types are single stem, which I happen to prefer.

Frankly, I don't think there are any great choices for small cams right now. Tough timing for you, I'm afraid. So choose what you want to compromise on: 1 - not enough small stuff (wait for better cams before making the investment) 2 - One of the many U-stem cams (may as well go with the TCUS, I think they're probably the best of the bunch, and way cheaper than the BD C3s). Just be aware of their shortfalls. 3 - WC Zero Cams (or equivalent). These are stiff, and don't have the range of an Alien. 4 - Some relatively unknown cams. 5 - Aliens (buy 'em used so you don't have to suport the jingus company and test 'em yourself). I know, I know, like I said, not a lot of great solutions. Maybe pick up a BallNutz or two. These are superb tools, and while they don't do *exactly* the same thing as a small cam, they can often be used in the same place. Best of luck. GO

Jake, I will play you any day of the week in 8-ball, 9-ball, straight pool or snooker if you can find a table. I'd like to think that although I will never climb as hard as you, I can kick your arse in pool. Care to prove me wrong? Also, for what its worth, I defend my thesis in 1:34 minutes. I've rehearsed numerous times and I've anticipated questions and made threats to those that needed to be threatened. I'm ready and filling with nervous energy by the minute. Wish me luck, Jason

Haha J I'd be willing to try my luck at least.. I've never played Snooker.. i'd like to try though. It seems all the best players in the world come from a snooker background.. ie Allison fisher, karen Corr ive decided my short game is good but my long shots need practice.. so a bar table could be to my advantage ;) Good Luck on your thesis! In case of emergency... "Yea!?! well.. YOU'RE MOM WENT TO COLLEGE!!" or "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!" :) Gabe I agree.. i have my yellow and green alien and i'll be happy with those for a while until something new comes out. I'm not a big TCU fan due to the triggers rotating into vert cracks.. I figure Tri cams are also a good supplement in the small range as for the ruckus i'm heading up thursday afternoon to save Alan from himself and get him some rock time before people start showing up. But i will see you there!

Bar tables...thats preposterous. Either the cue ball is a different size, or a different weight than the object ball. Either way, english and cue control is severely diminished. I'll try the, "your mom goes to college" reply for sure...

Jason, I expect you defended your thesis well. you're coming home next week, right? Hukton, nobody uses or recommends those "other" brand cams but me, I think because the names are scary. you should not ever use them. buy brand names only, or you will certainly die, like I did. several times. I am so old and close to the dying of the light that I happily climb above Petrenkoworld-sourced KROK cams, while rope soloing.

I just picked up the .5 and 1 flex cams at BRG. They were clearing out some room for a consignment shop they are going to start so they were 50% off. There was some more gear on sale so I suggest checking it out. There was one other .5 and some tricams I think. Also, it's not that I don't trust other brands, I just haven't heard a whole lot about them. Thanks for the input everyone.

BRG's kinda outta my way but thanks for the info. as far as the RE, Trango, Can Cam, and KROK ( for real, I really did buy one!) usage, I can only comment on the placeability (which is decent, I mean, they all work fin in any placement I've put them in, and function as a cam should). I've used them all in trad adn TR anchors, and none have ever walked or otherwise misbehaved... as far as falling on my own gear, I've only ever fallen on two pieces: my e-bay sourced #3 Chouinard camalot (2x, off a roof) and a brown tricam, which I no longer have because I got it stuck on Thin Air last fall. I fell on it about 3 times at the slippery beginning of Kiddy Crack.

Just make sure you get CE approved ones. You can get them at Rock and Snow in New Paltz. One of my partners have C3s and I have even fallen on the Red One - they place well but not as well as Aliens. Despite all the recall problems, etc at CCH I have not found a Cam I like as well as the Alien. For me, Zeroes are to stiff and I don't like U stem cams. Rumour has it that Metolius is coming out with a single stem micro cam similiar to the alien; also with softer aluminum lobes and a really flexible stem.

I feel quite incompetent asking but I need to know three things about how to use rockclimbing.com. 1) How do I post without replying to someone specifically? 2) How do you start a new forum (for instance: a thread specifically aimed towards western massers)? and 3) How do I organize posts/threads by date? (because for me they're all scrambled up when I view them) Thanks for any help here.
