In reply to: In reply to: My last post on this as well! Did you actually have a web developer do this or somone who said that they would wihout knowing what they could do? The site structure is hideous now. Who ever developed this site, I assume you are on this site my god! How many years exp do you actually have! This is the biggest amature piece of s--- I have seen in the past 10 years on a site with soo many users. If it was your first attempt which I kind of assume it is from the structure and look of the site, take a look at the comments and suggestions. This is about as bad as you can get for a revamp of the site. The site was about 2 years out of date, as far as code etc. Who ever wrote the new s--- and messed it all up structure wise basically took rc.com back 4 years ( no not 2 years as you were but 4) So, as you're siting here (not as a supporting partner) complaining about the site - I don't see you volunteering to help fix any of the supposed issues you have with the site. In reply to: I challege you then to go back 2 years and find it! Rockclimbing.com, January 18th, 2002 Personally, I prefer January 9th, 1998 In reply to: I assume most of the poeple here are posting about the look. I could care less about it. The functionality of the site in what I'm posting about which most people either don't care or don't know! Take some time and look about I've already said part on it, I'm done! It's pretty ridiculas. I believe you said you were done about 4 pages ago... Now shut up already. The moral of the story: If you're not willing to DO something instead of b----, then shut the hell up. - d. To be honest I would be more than willing to improve the current heap! If someone would step forth and pm me I've got time atm. I would really be more than welcome to either lend a hand in devel, or the setup that is here. I've been doing it for a while pm me for a ref! I frequent this site daily! It has some good and bad. Just like this thread ( people who poke their nose in without obvoiusly knowing anything about what I'm asking or talking about ) Again I would be more than welcome to lend a hand, I've got a little time atm, rather than shoot that "threat" I assume you have nothing to back that up with ie, work on rc.com? So I would assume that as as idle threat / coment? P.K.

So I would assume that as as idle threat / coment? I spent my share of time on this site doing code and admin stuff - none of which y'all ever saw (my specialty is all the behind-the-scenes stuff that you never see). And I've been a supporting partner (person who actually donates money to keeping the site running) for I don't remember how long. So no, it's not an idle threat - put your money (or your time) where your mouth is. - d. Once again! Ask Tim about the equip I've offered to the site. I've offered my help time and time again asking for a pm to help. None have ever been answered. The responces hace been pretty similiar to yours. I will still offer! but the same responce has been given every time. P.K.

I noticed another change appearing slightly before the new look, namely that the front page image is full-size, only resized by the browser. Is this a good idea? My guess is that it would mean an extreme amount of needless bandwidth wasting, if not all users, always click on the front page image...

In reply to: I work at a hospital and i deal with s--- all day....now I have to come onto the site and see it splattered all over the screen.... not a big fan.... I agree, it looks kind of like a hangover-enhancer-scheme... A bad kind... And with a non-friendly psychotic face in the corner.

In reply to: This was a bug related to some stylesheet issues. Apparently, browsers didn't follow the stylesheet "width: Xpx" attribute. Hmm. If the tag is correctly used and coded on the site, and is somewhat standard, I guess my browser is to blame, then. It's a bit trange though, for it's very new: Mozilla 1.8b.

Dear Management. I quit. I enjoyed coming to work when I could see nice peace provoking non-clashing colors and the wrinkly walnut looking RC.com logo. The dirt color makes me depressed. The monkey just reminds me of bananas. When I see the ad with the chick climbing a magnetic wall I want to laugh, cry and vomit simultaneously. Throw Bowflex ads in and I just can't take my work environment anymore. I am leaving and I won't be back. I expect severance pay.

I was really confused.... I don't really log on drunk much, but the time I did I get totally hosed with a whole new look. I was really confused and kept referring to the URL. I will have to explore to see if I like it or not. Have a good one.

That's one way to force me below the fold Tim. The colors... who picked THAT??? Committee? At first it reminded me of old Boy Scouts of America colors, but then it hit me: Brown is UPS. Walk into any UPS store and behold the new look of rockclimbing.com, lol! At work we had this UPS driver, a big old dude with a gigantic ass who wore those silly little shorts. I mean he had an island size ass, like a refrigerator bolted to his pelvis. A gigantic brown ass in those ridiculous shorts, always asking me to shgn shit. Can you imagine? A giant ass in brown shorts? I can. DMT

Sorry if it's been said in the previous 7 pages, but what if you give the user hte option? Have a field in the profile that simply says "Style:" wil a pulldown of "classic, monkey butt, whateverelse", then we can pick and choose.. Since you are using the css, it makes it nice and easy (and coincidentally, one reason stylesheets just rule).

Rockclimbing.com has lost its identity,i look around and i don't recognize it anymore. The colors remind me of chocolate or ummmm well... Also it takes so much time to load, previous rc.com was taking 1/2seconds to load, this takes like forever(and i'm on broadband) Just being honest don't hit. Anyway,do as you please as i'm not that active as member anymore. :(

You wnat to talk about frustrating, and then half the time the entire page doesn't even load. Not having the World Climbing News on the FP is a piss off too. If it weren't for that I wouldn't have had any idea about the recall for my gear. I liked having the gear reviews right on the front page, so I could see what was new there. Someone else said something about having the choice between classic style and this new hunk of crap, good idea if feasible. the management around here has done a great job on the maintenance of this site, the best to their ability IMO, however this corporate "sell-out" version that's going on here is just pathetic

I don't expect my opinion to count, but I don't like the new look. I liked the other lay out, not because I don't like change, but because I didnt have to search and poke around as much to find the area I wanted to be in. Also, for some reason this new rc.com loads very painfully slow for me. I liked the chic look of the Old Rc.com. And I hate the Demonic Possessed Monkey  I think I'd rather see a Baboon's Red Butt staring at me then this crazy monkey! Please Bring back the OLD Style!!! Seems a waste of space on the main page, not visually appealing at all.
In reply to: ...If this isn’t a joke then allow me to be the first to laugh at the emperors new cloths. “Hey Emperor! You look like CRAP!”

What I like - the new colors, in beige-kaki-tobacco tones are good, relaxing to the eyes. It may not be hype or trendy or whatever, but I don't think it's bad. What I don't dislike - the monkey. Very visual! Its mouth is a bit sarcastic and its eyes a bit frightening, but it could become a goog logo with the time. I'm just afraid that this kind of monkey face (who said Monkey Face was NOT climbing related, you ignorant!!!) has already been used elsewhere... And jpearl, before you say that monkeys don't climb rock, make a little search, you ignorant!!! What I don't really like - the absence of toolbar on the left. I used it a lot, especially for routes DB (don't forget I'm an AM). - the map in the route DB. I don't think it adds anything. Just slow to se the page... - the lost of space at the top of the pages : please put the toolbar right of the logo, not under! Or are you preparing a space for more ads??? - the site is slow!!! - the dispaly of votes for the pics is broken ; it could be time to add the total number of votes on each pic, if not too heavy and complicated. as a conclusion, I think the new aspect of this site is good, but maybe not better than the former one. ANyway, thank you for the change, it's a proof of dynamism.
