I'm coming.

Note, I didn't say I'd be there. Every adventure this year has been off-trail, off-route, so I hope my limited navigation abilities don't lead me to Morgan's, or Mugs, or Mustache Petes ? ?? ??? Or "The Pub" on 8th?

But wait! Molly Malone's is not on Kensington Road. It's on Kensington Cresent! Now where in #+$)*>? is that?

Well I got caught in the rain, walking to the train, so I went back home to get dry shoes on. Then I got caught in the rain, walking from the train. So I was in a poor mood. Plus I was in a strange part of town, in a strange place, looking for strangers. In the rain.

I found Kensington Road OK, and asked somebody where was K. Cresent. The first guy didn't know, the second guy thought it might be around here somewhere. Actually that was easy.

I found the pub, too. You said around 8'ish, I got there at 8:15, went around the pub, lots of people, no you. The place is too loud, Kevin, it really pissed me off. So I went outside to wait in the rain. No you.
I went around again, this time I found a climber, looking for "Grant". I said I'm looking for "Kevin". He lost interest.

I couldn't hang around any longer, in that noise. I left around 8:30, cold, wet, lonely.

Sorry Kevin, I was there, it didn't work. I'm pissed off.

I won't do that again.

I'd love to meet you guys, I hope it happens sooner rather than later, but we'll meet on the rocks, or at my home.

Sorry Dan, it's too bad because apparently you only missed us by minutes, and possibly passed us going in as you were leaving.

jumpingrock showed up first, called me as I was driving up and down Kensington looking of a parking spot. I ended up walking about 5 blocks, but saw it was raining so I grabbed an umbrella. (always have one in the car, comes from living in Vancouver). We were only there a short while, hadn't even ordered yet and rockguide showed up. Shortly after that JP and his girlfriend, then darkside, Joe & Lou, Sean.. there were eight of us in all.

When I got home from work, I looked at the thread and it seemed like no-one was going to be there at 8:00, I posted asking if anyone was..

skinner wrote:

But never received a response, from what everyone had posted previously it looked like 8:30 - 9:00 was more likely. I went for 8:00'ish and am sure I got there about 8:20. I really am surprised we didn't pass each other on the way in/out. because the people that you had talked to, that were waiting for Grant, were Joe & Lou who told us that you had just been there asking around for climbers. But anyway, you were right .. it was unusually crowded an waaaay too noisy! It wasn't like that at all the last time we were there. But we had been there on a Wednesday, and after talking to the waitress,we found out that Thursday is one of their busier nights, so we are going to go back to Wednesday nights.

Anyhoo, I apologize that it didn't work out.

Inconvenient, wet, difficult, strange.

Last year I joined a group of climbers at the top of Cougar Canyon. We had to ford the stream 15 times, I counted! Rock-hops, wobbly logs, jumping on gravel bars... And to get home, we had to ford the stream 15 times again.

That wasn't inconvenient, that was fun.

Last year we were climbing on Barrier Bluffs, and my job was to clean the anchors. So while I was heading up, when this black cloud came whistling up the valley from the NW. Lightning hit the mountain just around the corner. I climbed faster. As I neared the anchors, it rained on the rock, and on me. Man! I did not want to be there! But I hung in, cleaned the gear, got down, and by then my jacket was soaked.

That wasn't wet, that was fun!

My buddy and I hiked up Door Jamb Mountain. It's 600 meters (1800 feet) just to reach the base of the slabs. My buddy was actually not able to proceed, so we took pictures and hiked down.

That wasn't difficult, that was fun!

One day we went to Kid Goat, to climb KHW. Well the route was occupied so we hiked over to Twilight Zone. That route was occupied, too! So we traversed to Slingby's Overhangs Indirect. What a route! Where was the route? We didn't know if we were actually on the route until half-way up, we found the "3-piton belay" except it had 4 pitons.

That wasn't strange, that was fun!

But the pub meeting was inconvenient, wet, difficult, and strange. I don't want to do that again.

I'd love to meet you guys. On the rocks. Or at anybody's home.

Hate to break it to you Dan, but the pub is a pretty common place to meet people and finding people at a busy pub is a pretty normal occurance.

Sucks that you were wet and cold, but it seems like you are making way to big a deal about it. Molly's on thursday is a shit show for sure, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal. You should shrug it off and try again, you might find meeting some fellow climbers is worth it.

I totally forgot you guys were going to be there, I totally should have came down since I was sitting at home for some reason last night.

I've seen other people, in other groups, who refuse to meet at a pub because they hate the atmosphere. But I did not expect that to bother me as much as it does. Plainly, folks, I hated being there last night, and I'm not going to try for more of that.

I know that pub nights are a common way to meet people in many special-interest groups. I know that, in general, the social activity works to build links between people.

I apologize for bitching, and I'm sorry I won't get the chance to meet you guys at the pub.

I hear there's climbing near Sylvan Lake (which I find hard to believe but the rumour does resurface every once in a while).

It was busy, noisy, and the wings were expensive. I'm not sure any of us actually climb so I guess I'll see you all at the pub next week..... aw crap. I'll be working. Mad

I kinda feel sorry you had a crappy experience Dan but things are also what you make of them. I enjoyed the evening.

Ya.. umm I could be wrong, but other then "climbing walls" I think the *camps* that offer rock climbing there, drive out towards Nordegg to do any actual climbing.

Of course you could always grab your ice tools and go abuse building, trees, and telephone poles with David.

I'll see ya there 8:30 no "ish" about it. I'm not on call this week so I won't get side-tracked or have to leave, come back to my warm beer, etc.

Sorry about you having to wait there last week But it was nice of you to grab and hold a table for us, which must have been quite the feat with all the people that were there. fending them off with broken beer bottles and all.

You got it all backwards, you're supposed to climb the 5.4's, and then after a few beers, go into detail about the 5.14 variation you did. So, you were on Easy Street, got lost and ended up on Astro Yam?
That's a hell of a traverse!

Hey guys - just so you know, don't expect to see me this week. I'm working. Next week, I can probably arrange to be in town for the Wednesday (cheap wings please), then for the week following Thanksgiving I'll again be out of town down in Red Rocks. After that, the ice should be in, in more than just the drinks Cool
