Okay, we've got Hounds ear in October, Little Rock City (not open just yet) in November, and Horse Pens 40 in December. Which of you peeps are showing. This could be the biggest comp the South has ever seen. I'm turning over my entry money for all three on Monday. As many people as possible should come, even if they aren't competing! A good time will be had by all. Free stuff, food, party, bouldering... BEER!!!! You KNOW I'll be there. Travis

Isn't this like your third new thread about this?... :D I'm almost definitely going to be at HP40 in December. Chatt is not too far, but NC is a pretty good haul. I kinda wish there was a way to do 2 out of 3, but get better benefits than just entering them individually. Anyway, should be a good time and it will be a Godsend if I can muster a V4/5 by December. Maybe I'll have a shot in the beginners' category :o I'm looking forward to meeting all of the SE heavy hitters whose reputations precede them.

Nope, only two. One in bouldering, and one in South. What can I say, I'm stoked! I'm in my best shape ever, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to get together the money, but I sold all my old text books and got part of the way there. Competing is really fun. There's nothing like staring at you oozing fingers, and thinking "Jesus, I'm one hundred million points behind Traylor." as you fall off of a V4 for the tenth time. (Damn that "Chinese Water Torchure" at Sandrock) If I really put my nose to the grindstone, I may be able to talk myself into entering in the "real" class. I would need alot of work though. Dude, I'm stoked. This is going to be a BLAST! Travis

I heard another member talking about his at a gym in SC. How close are any of these places to Clemson, SC ??? My wife and I met friends at the PBC, and it was a blast, so we'd consider hitting some of these. BTW... Probably should've posted this in the Compition Climbing Forum brutha... I'll leave it to the individual Mods to either move them, or let them be.

Comp climbing, south, or bouldering. I already posted in two of the three, so move it where you think it needs to be. Lets see, Clemson, SC.... Hounds Ear is near Boone, NC. That's 3:39 (hours:minutes) for you, and 3:02 for me. Little Rock City is in Chatta-vegas. About 4 hours for you, and 2 for me. Horse Pens 40 is down in Ala-by god-bama somewhere... lets see....Oneonta is what the Guide book says. So, 4:50 for you, and 3:50 for me. So I got a pretty good advantage on you for all three of these. If you can only make it to one, I'd say to go to Hounds Ear, because this is the only day of the year it's opened to climbing apparently, and It has got to be a pretty cool event. I'm really not much of a boulderer. I'm more of a slow and steady moderate trad climber, but I've been training HARD the last couple of months trying to get in shape to redpoint a .12 (this weekend mabey???). I think I'll be able to have fun at the comp without having the wonderful honors of LAST IN THE REC DEV. like last year at the "Sandrock Hoedown". Hope to see a bunch of you guys there. Travis

Yeah I can get to Boone in 2.5 to 3 hours. Horsepens is 4 hours and LRC should be the same. I'm going.

I'll be one of the friendly judges at hound ears; so bring plenty of extra beer if you want to do well...I want to enter one of the other two comps, hp I guess.

What exactly do the judges, "judge"? Is it just ya'lls responsibility to add up the points at the end of the day? Just trying to figure how much beer to bring... Travis

"judges" generally have a good knowledge of the different areas of the boulderfield, the different boulders, and problems. They can direct / guide you as such...also, they are available to verify (sign off) for your scorecard...for credit of an ascent, you need one judge's initials or two witnesses (competitors) to sign your scorecard...they also help spot, move pads, direct traffic / people, put up banners, throw out prizes and generally act authoritative...

I don't remember the name of the campground. It's near the town of Foscoe, off Hwy 105. Foscoe is 9 mi. from Linville and about 6 mi. from Boone. There is another campground near the entrance for Grandfather Mountain, On Hwy 221. IT'S THE WRONG ONE!!!

In reply to: Full Field.....!!!! .......be there or be nose hair....... Bob Not many big names really. Not what I was expecting. It's good to see a few of those people on there. May be a little bit of a reunion since I haven't seen alot of those guys and girls in ages. Let me go dig up the link to the registration list... http://www.triplecrownbouldering.org/houndears_reg.html It's a good read! Travis

Hollywood Hans Florine is going to be there putting on a show called, "No Bivys" Should be pretty damn cool! It may be wasted on a bunch of skinny boulderers, but I for one am looking foreward to it! Travis
