oh yeah, i just had my fitness test at my (non-climbing) gym and i'm 20% body fat. 15% is a looooooooooong ways off for me....

Alot of the girls that i have seem that climb tend to be pretty good looking and at least they arent wasting their time going to beuty parlors and stuff like that. And Doesnt climbing biuld muscle anyways? But i only 3 girls that climb so...

I don't care. 1) If you are a chick, and into climbing, way cool. 2)If you're better than I am, I think that's cool too. I need SOMEONE to challenge me...my partner doesn't do a very good job of it anymore. No, I don't dig climber chick because I want a girlfriend who climbs (although a BIG+ ), I like chick climbers because I like girls and I like climbing. Put two and two together...what could be better??

I really dig chicks that climb.I find it really cool.There is this one chick at the gym that I go to....she is like way better then any other chicks that climb there.Shes right up there in skill with the guys.She is unbelieveable.I say to all the girls out there.Climb if you want too.Some guys....(me for one) like girls that climb.So what are you waiting for???Get out there and CLIMB!!!

I've been climbing with Stigonrock for the past two weeks or so- she floats past my crash & burn spots, man. I'm not intimidated- I'm inspired by her ability, and happy for her, as I am for any of my friends when they do something cool! She is a little intimidated by me, though- I took a 25 footer last weekend, and she got rocketed into the wall- ouch! Sorry, Stig!

Jeezie Louizee people! I kinda browed thru all thet replies, and it seems to me like we need to add anyther folder under "classifieds" for all those single guys looking for climbing chicks out there...all you guys got kinda excited talking about us burli girli's...what do ya say gals? should we start a "personals" section here?
I myself am a quote "burli girli" and I PRIDE myself on this fact. HELL YEA I can take a piss in the woods HELL YA I like a little dirt under my nails and when I see all those "prissi sissi" girls out there, I laugh...they are so caught up in materialistic things it cracks me up!!! I'm glad that they are all in the malls getting their nails done...less gumbie wanabies near the crags.

I agree with iclimbtoo,
climbing+chix=great thing ya know why its so great,besides the fact that girls that climb generaly feel better and have less hangups about themselves,generally have hot well toned bodies,and are just generally kool for climbing. Well its because they dont bitch about the time you spend doing ur other favorite thing. Thanks that is alll!!!!!!!

I think this is the first long thread that I've read from start to finish. Got a lotta' laughs which is driving the night-shift crew here in ER crazy. Tell ya' what, I'm in love with Nikegirl after reading her post on page 1. I mean, anyone that intelligent and a climber too!! man, she's gotta' be a megababe. You ever think about publishing some of your work in Climbing mag?
Same goes for you crazylikeafawkes; some of your posts gave me goosebumps & some cracked me up.
Either of you make it to Devil's Tower let me know...I'd be proud to have either one of you kick my old butt all the way up it. In my next lifetime, I want to marry you both!
Really, girls, your looks aren't as important as all that. OK, that's stretching the truth a little. But it's your attitude and how you carry it. If you're trying to prove that you're better on the rock so you can feel superior, you're way ugly, no matter that you look like a super model or a trophy wife.
But if you're enjoying life and have a good sense of humor and don't feel like you need to compete with me to prove something, I'd be happy to admire your style from my shady belay spot. And climbing with a better climber always inspires me to push myself.
All that being said, I married a pretty one that couldn't climb a ladder!
The only trouble with climbing chicks is the shortage of 'em here in small-town Wyoming plus the fact that most are young enough to be my daughters. Though I did meet some grandma/grandpa climbers in England & in Belgium, it doesn't seem to be as accepted a sport for the older American couch potatoes.

i think i can tell you where that line is.
remember that women are really not ungly but when you are overly buff there there is a problem
take the test (women) You might be buff if;
> You wear tank tops because your arms don't fit in the sleaves of the shirt sive that fits your body.
> Your neck does not go in when you flex.
> you can mannage off widths by stuffing in your bicept and flexing it
> You've ever been asked if you are a body builder by proffesion.
> If you have ever considered going to a Body building contest with a hope of winning.
The following are habits to look for;
> If your voice is deeper than your boy friend's
> If you can walk a doberman(sp) on a short leash through a room full of cats, with out any trouble
> If you drive a really big honking truck and it doesn't look odd or ironic.
and finally> If your Nick Name is The Soviet House Wife (no offence to Russians, its just that there are some BIG STRONG Russian women out there)

I just described what a general theory of beautiful woman is. I am not endorsing the mall rats with painted nails, ignoring inner beauty and so on.
To those who meausered body fat at a gym: your estimate might be completely wrong.
Most gyms measure body fat by measuring body fat at 3 points or 2 points. For a tri-athlete, climber, swimmer this may overestimate fat significantly. Reason: You may have a lot less fat in your pecs, thighs and calves. (the points missed in the 2 point fat test. )
So go get calipers and measure body fat at 7 points as in :

If after the 7 point test, you are a woman at 20% and people find you ripped in a sleeveless T-shirt/skirt- report to me. I will revise my theories.
Seriously, there are models who are at 20% and can curl around 60 pound barbell- and they still look very attractive.

Hey K.A., not to brag or anything, but I'm at about 12% right now, (the lowest I'v been was 11.5) and I can curl much more than 60 lbs...and I'm not "too muscular"...you be the judge...
I think that body fat percentages can be a good means of measuring fitness for some women...but then, there are those women out there that can be 10 x the athleet at 25 + compared to a woman at 12 or 15%...trust me, I know a few who can blaze past me in a triathalon EASILLY...its all genetics

To me the line between tone and "manley" is very defined. Muscle is a good thing on a woman, especially when its toned. As long as she's not so tone she looks anorexic it can very sexy.
Now, when you get to the other extreme, it gets scary. If a woman is muscular and tone and looks larger than a lot of men, then it gets to be sick and not very attractive.

Different people like different things, and that's good for me. I personally find attractive many different kinds of women. It makes no sense to me to tell then what they should do with their body. My experience is that you can create rules or canons of beauty, but then you find someone that doesn't fit on those rules and she steals your heart.
If we all looked the same it would be quite boring. Don't you think?

Nothing defines it. It is the work of men insecure in their sexuality and place in life. Most women I know that climb are very tone or even "ripped". Now, I prefer a "smooth" body line in a woman, but it is par for the course when climbing. If you committ to serious climbing, then a person's body will trim and tone. If a woman is very small to begin with, speaking specifically of very small muscles, then she will gain some mass from the constant use of lifting her own body weight. However, the mass building will stop when it is sufficient enough to carry the "weight load" during said activity.
Men having a problem with a woman being toned, more toned, a better climber, or some or all of the above need to lose the ego, or stop worrying that their penis size isn't adequate. Whatever the reason may be, the guy needs to get over it.
The fact of life is this. Men are generally the "stronger" (physically) gender. This is the way we are built. We need to lose that part of our maculinity, the ego, and get a life. Many men have problems when a woman exceeds his ability in, well, anything. Only insecure men suffer from this. I think we all go through it in adolescence, I know I did, but it is the immature that carry it on beyond their teens.
I feel comfortable in saying that all the women climbers I know can climb rings around me. I don't care. I support them, they support me. What is really the big deal.
If there is a guy still sitting there that is reading this and still has a problem with a girl, frankly, kicking his ass in something, then too damn bad. Your penis can't be that small.
I say support our "fairer" sex companions. If they climb better, so be it. If they are smarter, so be it. Whatever the one, or many, things they may excel at better than the guy, so be it. We are all different and we all have different strengths and weaknesses. This is the wonderful thing about all of us.
