I'd also pay good money to see Zac try to take on Bob. Zac, I like you a lot, and not just when you tip. But you would lose

By the way if hasnt been already metioned the place we camped last year is OFF LIMITS to camping and camp fires year round now. Trust me I know first hand (uhhmm). Anyway right on Lake Mary is free and fires are permited and its pretty cetrally located, I also hear that theres a good place up near snowbowl havnt been ther yet, and theres alwaays the stuff on the 89 by the Overlook. But hell I live here so I'm game for anything. Just bring the whisky

In reply to: O.K. so here's the deal... If your new to the group and feel a bit left out all you have to do is bring me a bottle of Jack D and I'll let you join us, if anyone bothers you I'll punch them in the throat, or if Art bothers you I'll step on him :P I do belive all are welcome and it's a fun time. I've made some great friends and wanted to throw UP in the fire. All that said, I think if you can make it you need to come. You'd have to catch me to step on me you LardAss n00b. My money's on Bobby D, even missing his bicep he's gonna take you down. STFU n00b!!!111

It just dawned on me... yes, at 1 am.. ED! Can I politely request another stellar stogie, similar to the one you hooked me up with last year?! I would be much abliged. Don't worry fellow AZ gatherers, I will bring plenty of whiskey. Lord knows I love my whiskey.. Ah, sweet liquor, eases the pain. (of gobies, flappers, pulled tendons and the like...) cheers, Charlie

In reply to: By the way if hasnt been already metioned the place we camped last year is OFF LIMITS to camping and camp fires year round now. dude, this is so not true. where are you getting this poppycock? dispersed camping is allowed pretty much anywhere in the coconino national forest. in the lake mary road area, the only rule is you have to be a bit south of lake mary road. the spot from last year is a regularly and heavily used camping are. this information is current as of 3 minutes ago -- i just got off the phone with the folks at the lake mary ranger station. call 'em yourself if you are still confused. Well, someone forgot to tell Barney Fife of the Flagstaff P.D. because the wrote Jeff (Reno) a ticket a couple of weeks ago. I don't get it. Some confusion there somewhere in the law enforcement ranks...

I may be wrong but it was me and Reno that got the ticket and the ranger said that camping wasnt allowed there anymore due the fact that it is closed to camping and campfires. and showed us the posted sign as you enter. She also said that they will keep this ineffect due to the fact that the caynon acts a fuel tunnel directly to houses. That place was cool hopefully they changed that ruleing and she was wrong.

Well Bob thanks for metinoing that obviously that stupid chick had know idea what she was talking about. Of course they werent all that bright they cited us for our little fire that was put out and let 100 drunk underage teens who had a big ass bonfire go, without so much as a ticket. Go figure.

for up-to-date info on camping in fay canyon, which is where folks camped last year, call the number i posted, which is the number for the morman lake district office. it's located about four miles from the camping spot. again, i repeat, you CAN camp in fay canyon. i know terri, the district ranger; i know andrew johnson, the rec planner for that area, and i know john nelson, the ops supervisor for the district that includes fay canyon. none of them have the slightest idea what you are talking about. there are no female USDA forest service LEO's on the morman lake district of the coconino. there have been no fire restrictions in the coconino this summer, except for a small part of the forest down in sedona. what you have posted refers to an entirely different national forest in a different part of arizona. seriously, nothing you are writing makes any sense whatsoever vis-a-vis the camping in fay canyon. are you sure you were in arizona and not, like, dimension 7 when this happened??

what getting a copy of the ticket and a picture of the f'n sign make you happy. she might have been forestry fire not a ranger. And we were camping in the exect same spot as last year. if it has changed now cool i'm stoked but dont say there were no restrictions. if you dont belive me ask Reno he was there to.

Hey. Chill y'all. Bitch slap me if I'm wrong, but Bob~ I think Geoff is talking about the place we camped at last year's gathering, suggested by Curt et al. The place with the broken glass and where Andy did his 'fire gazing' after we came back from your place. Geoff~ I think some peeps did camp at Fay Canyon and that should be ok to camp in again. The other option is to get someone in Flag to reserve some spots at the Pit. Less impact au natural with the designated sites, portapotties and the like. Hosts usually sell firewood so there will be no slaying of innocent trees (ahem). It is pay, however, but better for larger groups. And on another note~ Mike (tommyguns) ~ bringing your wife and new infant this time? She (and your VERY recent nuptials) was conveniently left out of the conversation last year as your were spooning my best friend in her tent. Tres uncool..... You would be served best to steer clear of me and mine this year.

OK, everyone: Here's the story. You can choose to believe it or not, I don't care. This past June, climbingcowboy and I met up in Flagstaff to climb, drink beer, catch up on times, etc. We arrived in Fay Canyon, the exact same place as last year's group camp... where the big bonfire was, etc (turn right off Lake Mary Road at the first cattle guard, etc.) That night, there were a bunch of drunk HS kids celebrating graduation with a bonfire, lots of booze, and much noise. The cops came out, dispersed the party, and sent 'em all home. Cowboy and I were camped across the way, and they left us alone. The next day, after climbing, we returned to camp and had to deal with a forest ranger who cited us for camping there. We had to break camp and leave. We then moved to a fine campsite on the banks of Lake Mary. Take the first right past the entrance to the Pit, and then take the first left after the pavement ends. The road goes on past some private property and you then find the free, public, no restrictions camping on the right. From these campsites, it's all of 50 yards to the lake (which is stocked wtih trout, IIRC.) So, BVB, it's true. We camped in Fay Canyon and got cited. If it's a bullshit citation, tell me who I can send it to, and they can deal with it. But who the feck cares? It's past news. Time to move on. Have we decided where to camp this year?

Uhh... I believe Reno and 'cowboy, but I'd gamble that we can camp at Fay Canyon. There's so many of us, and we've got a homie on the inside to back us up, right? I don't really care if we camp at the Overlook-area cg that Ed suggested or Fay Canyon though. I'd just rather not camp at the Pit, personally. With a big, potentially racuous group I think we should let the Weeniebago set have their nice, limited-space, improved camping experience in peace. Besides, it costs money and collecting funds can be such a pain in the ass... and even though I have long since learned that my dog MUST be on a leash anywhere I go, some other dog lovers with off-leash dogs may get hassled by the leash rule there. I am a me-first, Western American and I want my wide open spaces! 8-)

I had no idea that's what that place was called. I must have been thinking about Kelly Canyon when I wrote my post. Somebody shoot me already....

Wow!!! :P Sounds like fun. I will bring my Alpine and rock gear. I have to climb the highest peak yet in AZ, so I may as well put the two together and make a vacation out of it. I have a new beau, so hopefully he will be up for it too. He is jskydivemt (Jim) from Libby, MT. You can put us down to be there. I haven't attended a RC.com event since Mountain Gear's Red Rock Rendezvous in March. I hope to see some of you in AZ soon. Have a good rest of the summer. Cheers! Jules

As long as my daughter doesn't have a bouldering comp that weekend I know we would love to come. She was very upset they canceled Boulder Blast this year and has been looking for a weekend outdoor event to go to here in AZ since. A couple of quick questions about the gathering. Is there a minimum age(my daughter is 8 and has been bouldering for 4yrs)? Will it be a combination of lead, top, bouldering? Can someone e-mail (opustm@hotmail.com) me with all the details?

In reply to: Is there a minimum age(my daughter is 8 and has been bouldering for 4yrs)? Not at all! We'll just have to watch our mouths :)
In reply to: Will it be a combination of lead, top, bouldering? All of the above, depending on where you go, of course. She can do whatever she wants!
In reply to: Can someone e-mail (opustm@hotmail.com) me with all the details? Keep up with the first page of this thread, my top post should be updated as needed. I'll also send PMs via this site when it gets closer to the date.

TY for the update :D , i will keep an eye out. if anyone is curious to see her climbing look for pics posted by me...would love to hear your comments. As for watching our language...she is a climber used to its community so no need to watch much but she does have a good sense of smell...hint hint.
