In reply to: its just a rack since there is no such thing as a "sport rack" biners, quickdraws, trad draws, slings, etc dont count as rack items. the rack is only protection and then of course the biners attached to them. the other stuff is just basics. like if I asked what to bring for a rack on a certain climb I would be refering to only the pro. Dude, you totally just made that up. Runners are a key part of any rack. :P And I still hate the term 'trad draw.' :x

In reply to: OK, so where does the word 'rack' come from anyway? I can guess, but any etymologists here to enlighten why a bunch of biners and slings and nuts are called a 'rack'? One doesn't have to be an etymologist to figure this one out. It's called a rack because most climbers carry their gear on racked on a gear sling. -Jay

Well, we know that All racks are NOT created equal. Anything more than a harness full and it's just dead weight.

In reply to: In reply to: A couple draws and a gri-gri is not a rack. Excellent point! It is a sign that you have transcended adolescent gear love, and have removed the unnecessary trappings. Sport climbing is so zen! Call me a fetishist, but a couple of draws just do not do it for me... Racks, however, are so enchanting in their variety. Minimal rack, old school rack, spoiled-rich-californian-climber rack. Conservative all-BD-cams rack... Then kinky racks like hexes-and-nuts-only rack, or some exotic home-made-crap rack. A couple of tricams or a bigbro can add a new twist too...

Say it ain't so Jay! :P

Say it ain't so Jay! :P She's gotten me to go trad climbing a few times, though on our most recent trad day, I elected to just sleep, while she wrestled the off-widths. Anyway, Anna has been on fire in the sport climbing arena lately, having rp'ed her first two 11a's in one day, rp'ing her first 11b in 3 tries about 2 weeks after that, and then flashing an 11b about a week later. She'll be hanging the draws for me in no time! -Jay

Nice sends! Nothing like a good redpointing frenzy. I especially like it where you feel so good and are climbing so well, that you're sure the climbs are featherbagged. Then come back a few months later and get the smackdown.
