crazy crazy!!!! My husband asked me what i wanted for christmas. On the wish list: hangboard, lynn hill's book and a red rocks guide book.

Last year i got good outdoor clothing, the year before a set of cams. A couple of years ago i was surprised with a new snowboard and bindings. I'm very fortunate to have a spouse with the same gear lust.

Just thought i'd do a little check in the ladies room. What do y'all want for christmas? I've never been one for traditional gifts, meaning true girly stuff. you won't find jewellry or housewares on my list!!!!!!!

My xmas list consited mostly of stuff I needed for my new place....I think the main xmas present from my parents will end up being a futon (boring!!!).

As for my boyfriend (aka- the only person who will get me a gift who actually understands climbing) getting me things, he's crafty. He hasn't asked me yet, and frankly there isn't much in the way of climbing gear or clothes that I actually need, but he'll pull something out of his ass...he always does  . Irratating really...on account that I'm still not sure what I'm going to get him!

a harness, some chalk, and some snowboarding gear... and maybe some clothes to wear while rock climbing, since i have basically one pair of capris and two shirts, lol. im sort of scared to ask my parents though, since they are absolutely clueless about climbing...

macherry, what kind of board do you have? im obsessed with snowboarding. :)

That would @%#&! surprise me, too.

Marge -- snowboard, snowboard, SNOWBOARD!!!!!!1111

If God had wanted humans to snowboard, he would have:
- given us only one leg.
- had our feet point diagonally to one side instead of straight forward.
- put one eye on the back of our heads.
- had engineers develop larger equipment baskets on Bell 212 helicopters used by Canadian Mountain Holidays & Mike Wiegele.

But no, the Big Guy decided:
- Man will have two legs, two arms, and two eyes in the front of the head. The two legs will allow independent motion and suspension, the two arms will allow humans to carry two sticks at once (i.e. one in each hand), and the two eyes will optimize forward binocular vision.
- The above design also optimizes Man's ability to move laterally -- even turn -- in both directions while still having peripheral vision in both directions.
- The term "dude" will be a mono-syllable word and shall not be directly combined with the words "gnarly, totally, awesome, bitchin', gonzo, rad, bogus, or sick" in a sentence.
- Trays will be designed for holding food and beverages, not humans.

Sorry, dude. (As in, "How do two snowboarders introduce themselves on a SKI slope?")

shorty, it's a dirty little secret that i don't usually admit, but, sometimes on a 25+ cm day, i strap on the board and go for some carving through the trees. I have a few boarder friends that i indulge now and then. I guess it goes back to my skateboarder days.

I ride a santa cruz girlie model 155cm, with ride bindings.

sorry shorty to wreck the fantasy.......i'll only break out the skis with you!!!!!

Ok, between Mitchal and I we have a ton of gear. We have all of the clothing, toys and digital things we could ever need or want.

So, all I want for Christmas is happiness for my children, Mitchal and my family, peace on earth and for my hands/fingers to stop hurting.

My parents finally learned to have me order something from MEC and have it shipped to their house so that they can wrap it up for me and put it under the tree. This year I get a new rope and four more draws. They don't know that yet...

But I also like girly stuff - like kitchen stuff and fuzzy sweaters.

155!! 155!! Jeepers, even my slalom skis are 160cm -- which is still considered a "gurlie-man" length. (Real men do slalom on a 165.) Is there such a thing as a "blade board"? Get any shorter and you will be riding that skateboard. What ever happened to the days of 207cm GS stock that produced moguls the size of whale's backs? Oh yeah, they died with the dinosaurs.

shorty, 155 is quite respectable in snowboard lengths! my powder skis are only 160cm. short and fat, just the way i like them!!!!! But, those short slalom skis make me giggle. My friend regularly skis on a pair of 160cm elan slalom racing skis.

hope you've been a good boy this year shorty and maybe they'll be something good in your stocking!!!!!

Geeze, all this skiing and snowboarding stuff just seems so painful and scarey. You know, people die doing that stuff!! (ah, the irony  )

Back to the topic at hand, I'm pretty sure my husband is going to get me a telephoto lens for my D70. I can't wait! I've wanted one of these nice lenses for years now.

I turned my back on climbing for him and went in with a couple other relatives to get my husband a new Dell laptop for Christmas. I think he'll like that too, even if it's not gear.

To help out the rest of the fam, my husband and I have kept a Christmas gift registry at REI for the last couple years. It's really nice, all of my relatives know that they can just pick something off the list in their price range, give it to either one of us, and we will be thrilled! Last year, my parents bought us a #1 camalot (they thought the red one was the prettiest) and a new Mammut rope. It was a great Christmas.

My mother asked me what I wanted last weekend. I said I wanted a crash pad, she asked what the hell that was (obviously, "crash" did not sound like something she would like), and when I explained, she said "Oh my God, I did not realise that you were climbing without a rope". I tried to explain that 1/ one did not go very high when bouldering (OK, not strictly true, but at that point, I felt a little lie would not hurt), 2/ that's precisely why I wanted a crash pad, in the very unlikely (another little lie) event I would fall... from the look of it, I did not make a great job at convincing her of any of the above.

Apart from a crash pad, I don't need much. I am only interested in getting climbing gear, but 1/ I am a sports climber, so don't need that much gear, 2/ I am notoriously bad at waiting for a special occasion when I am dying for a new piece of gear, so I am pretty much everything I need! Or actaully, a winning lottery ticket, so that I can ditch my job and go on a climbing trip of unspecified length would be nice.

I have a santa cruz board too! 151cm though...I want to get a longer board this year for the deep powder days. :)

As far as my Christmas list goes: I already got myself a gift...a new computer! I'm hoping my mom gets me one of those cute climbing necklaces with the working biner. I've been hinting.

That's all I really want.

My list:
metolius cams (don't flame be for not being a BD freak!)
a titanium mug
hip/butt pads for snowboarding (maybe I'll actually land some spins this year!)
and the usual stocking stuffer books and CDs.

What I really want, but won't get:
a week-long climbing trip to someplace that is in the low 80s during the day and low 60s at night!!!!!
a new job!!!!!!!!

Gear stuff--new climbing/alpine pack, soft shell pants, android leashes for my ice tools, uber-light down sleeping bag for those possible but hopefully not bivies, couple of TCUs, and then not really a gift, but i'm getting hooked up with skis/boots/bindings super-cheap from a friend who works warranty at a gear company....time to finally learn how to get in and out of the backcountry in winter :) ......that'll probably do it, though i think my boyfriend has some other ideas that he hasn't shared with me....he's usually got for at least a couple surprising ones.

Non-gear stuff--gift cert to a knitting store (for yarn), bookstore gift cert, cash to help pay my phd application fees (10 schools at between $50 and $90 each....yikes).

But then, I'll settle for a softshell jacket or some tuition money...

My husband and I already sprang for new telemark skis (which will hopefully be here soon), so we've agreed not to get each other anything too big for Christmas. We've generally just bought gear when we wanted it, so at this point there's very little we need right now. A new single wall tent would be nice, but than can probably wait.
On the non-outside front, I'm wanting a sewing machine, which would really be a present for both of us since I could finally get around to altering my husband's climbing pants to fit better.

Hey macherry-

In the spirit of the season, I'll send you a copy of Lynn's book. I bought it for my wife last year and we've both read it so.... Save a tree. It's yours if you want it. Merry Christmas, phillip

Of course, what I want most is an injury free year, lots of powder on the slopes and some more free time (yes, I know that all you people with real jobs are far busier than me, but more time to climb is always nice).

On the materialistic side -
-New pair of crampons
-Down jacket
-Quickdraws
-(maybe) new ice tools

Already got a pair of (second hand but new to me) telemark skis just waiting for enough snow to try them out.

I was really hoping that my hubby and I could buy for new ice climbing crampons for each other for a xmas gift !!

but Alas, I had to have hand surgery last week, so that messes up the money situation at home and 'surgery' becomes my xmas gift this year - yippee . . . :(

luckily I'll be all better in 6 weeks and I'll be on the ice in Ouray!
- even if it is only with my old crappy sabertooths -
