Micah, the season is short and the walls are big, PM meSmile
Did Moveable Stoned Voyage on Sunday for a great opening to the Black climbing season. I manged to lead the pitches I didn't lead when Flamer and I did this route last year. I took a virgin to the Black with me, man were his eyes opened Cool. Starting the middle of next week I have 5 days if there are takers on something like the Hali Wall, any wall rats out there?

What exactly is Black season? I assume that spring and fall are the best times to go, but are there any other specifics?

(wow, it feels weird posting to this thing again)

Andy, I’m free next Friday and itching to go to eldo. I don’t believe we’ve met but it seems like we know some of the same people.

Black season is upon us. From now until things get to hot to comfortably climb. For some that may not happen. Me, I try to avoid it after mid June until late August. That being said, there are climbs you can do on the shady side of things with early or late starts depending. A climb like Scenic Cruise is full blown in the sun so go prepared with lots of water. Climbs like Comic Relief and Escape Artist can be climbed early and won't catch sun till a little later in the day, conversely Leisure Climb and Midsummer Nights Dream are good afternoon climbs.

That depends on what you can handle!!

Maiden voyage is usually just that....but not a real gauga for balck canyon routes.

Comic relief and escape artist are good ones to think about for the first time.

...or you could have some weird old guy talk you into Scenic cruise....

My girlfriend and I are planning on heading out to Indian Creek this weekend and looking for more people to carpool/climb with. I can lead through 5.11s out there and she’s a beginner and looking to learn how to crack climb better, so we’ll be making a point to get on a variety of stuff.

Also, does anyone know if the road to Pistol Whipped/Way Rambo is a 4WD road? I've been out to the Beef Basin Road campground without a problem, but have just never gone that way. I just have a little Mazda 3 and wondering if these walls were an option.

I would not say it is a 4wd road, but you do need some clearance. And with the spring runoff the crossings will be high. the Pistol Whipped/Way Rambo crossing is kind of steep and deep. If you are going to do it, gun it.

18, 6 months serious climbing, about 3 years off and on before that. Learned to belay & rappel in the BSA, and I'm climbign at my school evey day & Sport Climbing Center on the weekends. Very much interested in any sort of partner... boldering at SCC is getting boring when I want to lead some of those lines!

Give me a shout, looking for sport/trad mentor and working on a rack.
