Saw these photos on Gunks.com today. They seem to fit with this thread, but I'm posting it here so as not to get in the way of the "on subject and respectful" "polite discussion of specific accidents" going on in there.

Yeah, either that, or the person at the top is off belay.

I'd go with staged.

The belayer is wearing kid's shoes.

You guys are mistaken. Clearly, that is a fetus at the base of the cliff. The line is simply the umbilical cord. This is just another instance of a climber giving birth while soloing Handy Andy.

I noticed that too. And judging by her size relative to the dog and the grigri she's probably 12 or so...

She's not texting. She's playing with her nut tool bungie. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again. Those bungie cords are an accident waiting to happen. Between those cords and shiny things that make funny noises it's a wonder anyone makes it out alive.

If you have more than one kid you don't have to wait so long.

Holy shit , you just made my day! My wife if pregnant with twins! You'll see us at the Gunks by Mid may. Just look for the clusterfuck ground anchor and the shirts that say thing one and thing two.

How much do those baby seats weigh? You know, the ones you can clip into the car seat...

I think things will be ok - she's probably stepping on the rope with her right shoe. Crazy

Gold. Almost as good as the picture of the TR anchor on the dead, fallen tree (also at the Gunks).

Kurtz closed the system. He tied me off and walked away.

I just wanted a belay, and for my sins, she gave me one....

Saw this going on a few minutes earlier, leader was about 15ft off the deck when I came through. He was very much on lead, no anchor from above or anythihng. And to set the record straight she was not texting or playing with a nut tool.... She was in the middle of an intense battle of Cats Cradle (for real). This moron dad is going to bust up his kids face. She was anchored in with one nut... could have at least added the dog into the system with a nice sliding X.

According to the third picture you are wrong. Although you're right about everything else.

I quite liked the "auto-dropper" coined by Arrogant_Bastard (for a grigri... )

and yes, maybe he was in a solo mindset (been there, done that as well), when the rope is only there to belay the second up; chances of that second catching a fall? I never had to find out...

Agreed. This looks like a new version of Curt's Shoe Belay technique ...

http://www.rockclimbing.com/...;post=956190;page=1;

I'd like to see a little more redundancy in the dog's anchor though.
