Make sure you wash your hands afterwards.

Used patchouli oil is tough to get off. I think you need some form of industrial solvent long since banned by the EPA from the open market...

I just really really want to see the leader take a good fall above pro, & see how the belayer gets slammed into the rock face first as her hands will be holding her phone or what ever it is & wont be able to take the fall in time.

I wouldn't, if her anchor is a single nut, she's gonna get slammed into the wall and ripped up the climb, likely colliding with the climber along the way.

If the climber is really unlucky, that dog may suffer the same fate as pepper.

See, you guys keep missing it... the fluffy little dog is the bulk of the safety system. It's a crash-pooch.

Just don't get any on your rope - we aren't ready for another of _those_ threads.

I think even the dog looks spooked about the whole situation. Is it just me, or does the gunks draw more of these types of climbers than any other area? I've never felt as much in danger at any other crag as I do when I'm at the gunks. Could it be it's proximity to NYC?

I don't think that

is the Gunks.

But, yeah - easy access (nice!) and high population centers close by means that even if the percentage of "those types" of people is the same, we'll see more of them at the Gunks.
:(

Indian Cove - Short wall
Which is funny since they got all their big wall aid gear out.

My guess is they're practicing the aid.

No, but... I'd probably rather see both of them get taught a hard lesson than a fatal lesson.

Not to be completely heartless, but that girl would probably be better off with the fatal lesson than with walking around with the scars from the hard lesson for the rest of her life.

After she gets slammed into the wall and then pulled through the first carabiner she would probably look like that woman who got attached by the chimp.

She's not going to get pulled through the first biner - her tether will stop her, even as it pendulums her into the rock.

And, scars can be dealt with. (How she'll regard her dad, however...)

Based on people saying that her tether is attached to a nut, your comment may or may not be true.

I suppose your right about scars though...

I'm still voting for just the dad seeing the repurcussions of this...It's like hoping that a child in a carseat gets a hard lesson for her father's driving habits.

What lesson would the girl learn?

Edit: To be fair to j_ung, he said that he'd rather see two people receive a hard lesson than a fatal lesson, and I agree with that. However, I disagree with the first text that I quoted above...j_ung's response is addressing a different point.

I wonder who was taking the picture? The mother? If you want to free solo fine but don’t use your daughter and dog as crash pads.

Seems that the photographer is a concerned climber.

It is not staged. I came up the stairmaster and ran into a friend who told me about it as my partner and I walked towards the Nears thru the Uberfall. It was still going on as we went by and I had the camera ready.

Through a friend the Dad has been ID'd and he commented that the dog actually got tangled up. He also commented to the friend that sent him the link to see if it was him that he didn't have time to worry about or respond to the posting
