CliffDestructo wrote: It is not staged. I came up the stairmaster and ran into a friend who told me about it as my partner and I walked towards the Nears thru the Uberfall. It was still going on as we went by and I had the camera ready. Through a friend the Dad has been ID'd and he commented that the dog actually got tangled up. He also commented to the friend that sent him the link to see if it was him that he didn't have time to worry about or respond to the posting Well, at least the dad has his priorities, such as they are. Did you then step in and teach the little girl that allowing her daddy to die at her feet might not be something you'd want to see?

Did you mean to ask if I stepped in to help so that I would not see him die or Did I step in so that she would not see him die? I did neither and almost told the ranger to either call DYFS ? or get the litter close to the climb? The Gunks are full of this and if you stepped in every time you saw this you wouldn't even cart your gear to the rock bc you would never climb. I have stepped in a bunch of times. The last was when a large guy was going to rap off a 4 inch dia. tree 40 feet up near 3 pines bc his girlfriend couldn't do the moves on the 5.3. He had the rope 2 feet off the ground to prevent rope drag when he pulled it

Of course, in the little girls defense, she may not have any clue that her inaction may be setting her dad up for an assisted suicide. I would have said something, even just a quick "you need to keep your hand on this rope at all times sweetie" as I walked past. But that's a personal choice, much like everyone else was making in this situation. Everyone was choosing to go their own way, unconcerned with the others. I'm not dissing on your decision as I understand, but I couldn't walk away. I would still tie in with you at some point even knowing of your course of action here, but I would never tie in with the man who was leading in that picture. I'd like to think it's staged. It's likely the device would catch him anyway, but I keep seeing all kinds of these Grigri "accidents" over and over. I hope the asshole reads this.

I think this thread might make my position clearer to the leader. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...d;page=unread#unread If you want to kill yourself, don't do it in front of your little girl. Go get a shotgun, head into the deep woods where you know cougars and coyotes are prowling and blow your brains out. Tie a rope around your neck with a heavy weight on the other end and jump off a bridge into deep water when no one is around. Swallow a bunch of pills and lay down on the bed after you've washed them down with a few shots of whiskey. Don't kill yourself in front of any child. Just leave a clear suicide note for your loved ones.

Thread drift! Get a seedy motel room in Barstow, swallow a bottle of sleeping pills, strip naked and lie down in the bathtub! Cut your wrists and swim out to the Great Barrier Reef! Take pills, climb into the trunk of your car and call the scrap yard to pick it up! Climb K2 in shorts and a T-shirt! Sneak into Cape Canaveral for a ringside seat at a shuttle launch! Go backpacking in North Korea! Start a website called mafiavideos.com!
