The closer I get to killing myself, the easier it is to seperate the important things in life from the things that just don't matter. And I like bright, shiny gear and women with big shoulders

Climbing makes me happy. The mental and physical challenge wakes me up. I feel like I'm good at it and that makes me happy. There's a level of excitement and enthusiasm in all my climbing friends that I rarely see in the rest of life. And I feel like no matter how long I climb, there will always be more to try and like I'll never get bored.

Because the addiction never lets up...everytime I think I'm starting to get "burnt out" I find or learn something new and then I'm "forced" (ha!) to keep climbing... .... 8)

because climbing is like a moving meditation. only climbing can make me so focused i am aware of nothing else, as close to stopping the tought process as I have come. It will have to do until I can train my mind to behave better!! but besides all that, climbing is a great sport that involves comaradarie, not beating someone else. climbing keeps me in great shape and it truly uses all the senses. finaly, you can climb all year!!!

For all the wrong reasons, to be sure. Climbing (for me) is self-indulgent, but I don't care. Sometimes I climb to prove myself to myself. Sometimes, I admit, I climb to prove myself to other people. Sometimes I fail give up just to see what it is like to give in to self-doubt...and how the response to an action like this impacts me and my interactions with folks around me. So why do I do it? Because there is something about it that overrides my guilt over self-indulgence, my fear of failure in front of my pears, and the potential for disappointment in myself when I set a goal and fail. Climbing is the alter upon which I sacrifice any and all of my virtues, my pride, my self esteem, my time, and my life. Sometimes a phoenix rises from the ashes. Sometimes not. -Kate.
