For trad, sport, TR, I like more mellow stuff, Coldplay, Dave Matthews, Zeppelin, etc.

OTOH, I always pictured the soundtrack to bouldering to be more like what you would find on one of Buckethead's last two albums, though. Speed metal riffs over a techno-inspired beat.

What's wrong with all of you? I don't see Pink Floyd on here anywhere!!

Just a guess Bro, but I'm thinking the Pink Floyd crowd forgot their Geritol and overslept again. Or they just plain forgot.

What were we talking about??? Oh yeah, a 35 year old defunct rock band, that's it!

I hear they want to tour again, make use of the Gravry Train one more time. Grace Slick said it first, and best:

"Old people should not play rock and roll."

WORD.

Dingus, your name is apt. Pink Floyd is one of the few rock groups who managed to remain creative, distinct, successful, and lauded by millions for thirty years. Their last original album, the Division Bell, was released in 94, and happens to be one of my personal favorites. Their fame and "freshness" despite their longevity is a feat that very few musical groups can claim. By the time most bands release their last album, its usually because they suck ass and no one wants to hear them anymore. With Pink Floyd, the members retired kings of their proverbial mountain, practically at the top of their game.

Need I also mention that "Dark Side of the Moon" broke records for not only its retention of a place at #1 on the Billboard album charts but it is one of the top-selling rock albums of all time. It spent the next 14 years on that list at ranks below #1.

Granted, of course, that many people here are talking about how much they enjoy listening to Hendrix, Zeppelin, and many other classic rockers whose music, according to you, is probably too antiquated to be worthwhile. I suppose you don't like any of them either. Your loss really. As Homer Simpson correctly assessed "Everyone knows rock achieved perfection in 1974!"

So listen to your Nickleback, Creed, or whatever the hell mainstream modern garbage you consider to be "good music." I'll take my Geritol, smoke my grass, and laugh at you from the tops of mountains you'll never climb.

SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND!

Creed broke up, thank god. BLARRRGH! Whiney ass Christian rock. I had one of their albums until I really started listening to the lyrics. Made me puke.

Yeah, Creed is just another one of those groups who could very easily be Christian if not for the fact that they might be talking about a girl instead of Jesus-kind of depends on the audience. I found a Creed CD in the case in perfect shape on the side of the road. I immediately began playing a game of frisbee with it. The game sort of devolved to "Crush the CD," but I think you get the point. Creed blows big fat donkey balls!

That said, I really do hope Pinl Floyd tours again. Man I'd sell my firstborn into slavery to go to a Floyd concert. They really know how to do a proper show!

How about what not to listen to before you climb? I'll cast my first vote for anything by Air Supply! Because you will either jump to your death in a last ditch effort to get their stupid songs out of your head, or plummet to your death when your partner cuts your rope as payback for incessantly singing the horrible songs that are now stuck in his/her head. Or you will be pelted by a cascade or rocks unleashed on you by other climbers who couldn't stand the sound of both of you singing a sappy duet.

Here's the last CD I put together for road tripping. War & Peace songs.
Lawyers, Guns & Money replaced Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, because that was too long to fit. If I were doing it over, I'd probably use the Pearl Jam cover of Masters of War. iTunes didn't have Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die, so that was out.

Alphabetical order, like most of my CDs.

(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding Keb' Mo'
Battle of Evermore Leslie King & Terra Gold
Buffalo Soldier Bob Marley & The Wailers
Come Out and Fight The Battering Ram
If I Had a Rocket Launcher Bruce Cockburn
Lawyers Guns And Money Warren Zevon
Life During Wartime Widespread Panic
Lives In The Balance Third World
Masters of War Bob Dylan
Mo Ghile Mear(Our Hero) Sting & The Chieftains
Peace Train Cat Stevens
State Of Siege Third World
Sunday Bloody Sunday U2
The Foggy Dew Annwn
The Heathen Bob Marley & The Wailers
Tribal War Third World
War Edwin Starr

With that, Tom Waits kicks ass. I just found the song, "The Piano Hass Been Drinnking," check out these lyrics, they are quite funny:

The piano has been drinking, my necktie is asleep
And the combo went back to New York, the jukebox has to take a leak
And the carpet needs a haircut, and the spotlight looks like a prison break
And the telephone's out of cigarettes, and the balcony is on the make
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking...

And the menus are all freezing, and the light man's blind in one eye
And he can't see out of the other
And the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid, and he showed up with his mother
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
As the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler cream-puff casper milk toast
And the owner is a mental midget with the I.Q. of a fence post
'Cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking...

And you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter
And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without her
And the box-office is drooling, and the bar stools are on fire
And the newspapers were fooling, and the ash-trays have retired
'Cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
The piano has been drinking, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me

hahahaha, awesome
