You'd really have no problem being subjected to another person doing the same? If they were playing Madonna's Lucky Star album? What about one of those old K-Tel Best of the Bubble Gum Era type of compilations? Or "Dueling Banjos?" Or Xian Choir music? Or, even one of those all-dog vocals Christmas specials?
That's a serious query. If someone was blasting the types of music above, and if you asked them to kindly turn it down and they refused, would you honestly think "Hey - free country"?
Personally, I don't understand how anyone can be serious in saying they think it's fine to play any music at a level that goes out at a level that it infringes on other people's ability to have their own airspace. It reminds me of the idiots who sit on the subway with their ipods cranked so everyone else has to hear that godawful bass, synthetic drum beat. It's just fucked up. And it always seems that the people who do this always have abominable taste.

angry nature lover, what time are you talking about when the music was being played? i had a grp of people there on sunday from about 11 to about 3. there were 8 of us and a baby. we had ropes up from the 10d (child's play) to the 9 (butterfingers make me horny). we also had music playing. not blasting, but playing. not loud enough so that we can't hear the commands. no other climbers showed up at a any time. at least not anyone soloing. as we were near the end of our day, two girls came up and asked if we were done with the 10a. i offered the rope for TR but they wanted to lead so i pulled to rope. as the girls were climbing, i asked if they wanted the music off - the belayer said "no." then, two guys showed up later and they climbed the 10d on our rope - they even cleaned the anchors for us. we were courteous to everyone. and yes, we had music playing but it was not louder than 8 people talking. if you are complaining about our grp, then i want to at least have it clear that we would have complied if you only asked. and never at any time was the music loud. lastly, there was a mention of "white trash." dude, if the post is about us, we had 2 asians and a latina with us...maybe you're talking about another grp at the thin wall on another day???? in any case, next time was use your mouth and ask in person instead of your fingers and type from your home. if we were the ones annoying you, we would have certainly stopped the music and you wouldn't need to register just to complain.

was this the first or the third instance you put this on the boards. let's see....once here, once in another thread, and oh! how special you made your own very special thread just for this.
but to be fair: if you can worry about fucking dragging a boombox to the crag and then worry about if that hyper-motivating badass crazytown song is going to play next so you can send your next outdoor (finally too!) project, bro, thats sad. Put that effort into doing something tangible, lke packing some sammys or drinks or something. have some convo and UNPLUG for a bit. that's why you are out there right? you ARE shoving your preferences down everyones throats, we can't turn the birds off, but that's why we like it, you have a choice to NOT bring something unnatural to the climbing environment and the people that use it.
and to all the people bagging on boulderers as skaters and miscreants and all that other sensless shit, the problem is not about boulderers its about inconsiderate people. this prob could easily be about sport, tr, or trad or aid. though i would love to see an aid climber strapping a ghetto blaster to their haulbag and lugging it up. apparently it wasn't boulderers that ruffled the OPs feathers, it was climbers on ropes, and if it wasn't there were some admitted rope climbers that perpetrated as well. back off the climbing stereotyping or STFU cause it's lame.

A mod didn't erase the post that may or may not have been there and that ANL quoted. Why would they erase an inconspicuous, blase post over his calling people white trash and hillbillies? gang raping/roping - we had EIGHT climbers. having 3 ropes is normal for that many people!
screaming, hollering, grunting - are you serious? making things up is just not cool!
your opinion is that my music ruined your day in nature. you have every right to have that opinion. my opinion is that you should have talked to me about the music instead of being passive agressive and posting your rantings. you could also have an opinion of my clothes being too colorful and clashing with the natural spendor and landscape of josh - should i go home and change to make you happy? i did nothing with any premeditation to ruin anybody's day and i am not going to try to please each and every person i run into. we all have our views but we can still be civil and discuss them as they present themselves instead of posting and ranting and shoving our opinions about. think about this, WHAT if i had the opinion that soloists should not be allowed to climb b/c if they fall, it would ruin my day seeing all that gore?

No mod deleted my post. I did it myself. I still agree with what I wrote but I had second thoughts and felt it was a little too mean. Bouldering is like going to a driving range. It is part of climbing, like hitting drivers is part of golf. It works a specific skill, but it is only one of many skills involved in the total. Some times it is fun to go to the driving range and hit some balls, but if you don't ever play 9 holes it becomes pointless. BTW skull caps (or beanies for idiots) are for when it is cold, not for when you are trying to climb the dropping of a mountain.

and i don't agree with the sentiment that just because a rock is more accessible and its setting more tame than what you could retreat to at greater alpine heights, then people are free to turn it into their personal gym accompanied by their personal muzak. you're supposed to minimize your impact. act like it
