I'm considering heading to Toledo, SPAIN (not ohio, ohio is flat) for three months next fall and was wondering: (I have to decide on the program soon, so any info would be appreciated) 1) are there any climbing gyms around or in toledo? 2) How is the climbing in the area? 3) Are there any local clubs or resources for finding partners? 4) Any good guidebooks to the above mentioned climbs? (They can be in spanish). 5) any other various resources you could suggest i'd appreciate. Gracias, Peter Borden pborden@uchicago.edu

The 2 best crags in your area will be Patones and Cuenca, both killer, you can order guidebooks through Desnivel.com. There will be a bouldering gym run by the local climbers as well as full-on gyms in Madrid.

Malaga as a city, I do not like. I never went to Toledo, but there are many nicer cities than Malaga in Spain. However, quite near Malaga is the El Chorro Gorge, a limestone sport climbing paradise with a lovely river. It's quite easy to stay there for an extended period of time (people camp all over the place... even in caves), and it gets really hot. Summer would be bad there, but fall, winter, spring should be fantastic. The most convenient part is that the village of El Chorro is directly on the train tracks north of malage. It's an hour from malaga, and not terribly hard to reach from the rest of andalucia. What program are you studying through? I studied for a year in NW Spain. If you have any other questions, just pm me. Good luck. You'll love it.
