Any information about where it was found? Just wondering if it was at a climbing area versus in the city or something.

I'm wondering if we need to keep bumping this since it's now a sticky. Just wondering so I know whether or not to keep an eye on it. My prayers and sympathy go out to all who know him.

There really isn't enough to even speculate on yet. Missing for quite a while and the vehicle has been found. Could be anything. Let's just hope for something good, like a REALLY long drinking binge and he's found in the casino bar after running a HUGE tab and they won't let him out 'til he washes enough dishes to work it off.

In reply to: I don't know John, and I absolutely do not mean to take this lightly, but seeing this post up for so long it's hard not to wonder if maybe he had some reason to make himself disappear. I mean, people who are victims of crime usually turn up sooner than this. Again, no disrespect intended, and even though I don't know him, I almost feel like I do at this point, and he seems to be a cool guy from what everyone has said. It would just be kind of tragically weird if he was sitting on the beach in Cozumel with a new identity or something while everyone is out there looking for him and bumping this post. Given the alternatives, I kind of hope this might even be the case. Just saying what others are probably thinking, but if this offends Curt or anyone else just say so and I'll delete, no flaming required. I've had people close to me meet with tragic and unfair ends, and I certainly hope that this will end when he's found alive and well, with some very strange story to tell. God forbid we spend 5 seconds bumping in vain...

Sorry guys but the only thing the BUMP does is clutter up the post to the point that we have 13 pages of bumps and 2 pages of usefull info. keep it sticky and bump it once a week. the fact is that everyone on this site is fully aware that this situation is what it is and we all check in now and then to see what is up. too many bumps just make it so screwed up that if someone actually posted some new info it would get lost in all the bumps.

Bump , God i hope he is fine, I was increadibly touched by how compassionate everyone is being, I have never known the man, but by judging how many people are responding to this i can see that he is an amazing person. Ill keep him in my prayers and hope he turns up...<=|

Forgive me if this is a a repost of a previous suggestion, but if anyone knows websites/forums that he used to frequent.. check the login dates on his profiles for recent activity.. it doesn't do much, but any sign of activity might bring some sense of ease to the situation.

Family hopes for a miracle Scottsdale man vanished during Las Vegas trip Carol Sowers The Arizona Republic Jun. 6, 2005 12:00 AM SCOTTSDALE - John Rosholt of Scottsdale told his family on Dec. 27 that he was going to Las Vegas to play poker. No one was surprised. Rosholt makes his living at the game. Known to lose $6,000 a night, he has had enough hot streaks over the last 20 years to buy a south Scottsdale townhouse and finance his real passion, rock climbing. advertisement A 48-year-old powerhouse, he is known in the Southwest for discovering new climbs, clinging to rock faces to hammer in bolts so other climbers can make their way. He was expected to be gone two weeks. He never came back. His townhouse is much as he left it. Another climber is housesitting in case Rosholt returns. "This is not like John," said Jane Watkins, his sister in Littleton, Colo. A faint trail of credit card receipts put him in Las Vegas through at least Jan. 19. His gray 1989 Toyota 4Runner was found at a casino in late April. But from there the trail goes cold. Las Vegas is an easy place to get lost and a hard place to be found. Five missing persons detectives share 1,000 new cases a month. Their priority is finding missing kids. "It's the uniqueness of Las Vegas that attracts people," Las Vegas police missing persons Detective Roberto Juarez said. "People come here to get lost." Juarez has opened a missing-persons file on Rosholt but isn't making any promises to Watkins. He says he's handled plenty of cases of men who leave home for a Las Vegas convention, then run away with a showgirl or appear to vanish on purpose. Juarez isn't suggesting that Rosholt slipped away on his own. But he said it's too early to say whether "he's a victim or if he had a meltdown." Friends speculate Rosholt's friends think he may have been harmed in the desert on a hike, been mugged at a casino or suffered a stroke. They don't think he just ran off. "Why would he survive on gambling wages, and leave $160,000 in equity on a townhouse and drive a truck with nearly 400,000 miles on it to go off to Thailand or something," climbing friend Daniel Greenfield of Scottsdale said. "None of this adds up." When her brother's truck, was discovered in late April at the Silverton Hotel Casino and RV Park, Watkins thought it might divulge a clue. Nothing. "The Club was still locked on the steering wheel," she said. "It wasn't touched." Hiking trip possible Darin Holt, 33, of California, a former roommate and one of Rosholt's longtime climbing partners, figures that the well-known climber parked at the Silverton and carpooled seven miles to the entrance of Red Rock Canyon, popular with climbers. It was there that Rosholt a few years ago had established a so-called "first ascent" on the challenging Hefeweizen, according to a 1998 article in Climbing Magazine. There is the worry that Rosholt fell while climbing. Holt says that is unlikely. Nursing a sore shoulder and troublesome toe, Rosholt left his climbing gear at home. "But that doesn't mean he wouldn't have been hiking around," Holt said. One clue suggests that he had planned to hike somewhere. Watkins said a Jan. 4 credit card receipt showed that he bought a pair of $297 prescription sunglasses in a Las Vegas optical store. The clerk recognized a picture of the powerfully built Rosholt and told Watkins that he wanted a rush on his order because he was going hiking the next day. Watkins wonders if he fell on the hike, got bitten by a rattler or hit his head. And if he carpooled with another hiker, where is he? A January credit card receipt for $9 worth of dry-cleaning deepens the mystery. "He never owned anything that had to be dry-cleaned," his sister said. Odd receipt signature "But," Holt said, "it would make sense to dry-clean a sleeping bag." The receipt is signed just "John," and Watkins says the "handwriting is nothing like my brother's." There is no evidence that his credit card was stolen, so Watkins worries if the bizarre signature means that Rosholt had amnesia or a stroke and is homeless. Juarez has checked homeless shelters but found no one matching Rosholt's description. Twice a month Watkins calls the Clark County Medical Examiners Office in Las Vegas to see if any "John Does" there could be her brother. The answer is always no. Friends are losing hope. "He is like losing a grandfather telling stories around the fire pit," Holt said. "He was the 'go-to-guy,' he had the experience." Hope is dwindling Greenfield also isn't optimistic. "I don't have a lot of faith that our friend John is coming back," he said. Watkins, who has gone to Las Vegas to search for her brother, is trying to hold on. "I'm a Christian," she said. "I'm hoping for a miracle."
