I'll be heading into the bugs for the first time in mid august and will be camping either at applebee or in the backcountry. I was wondering how burly of a tent I'll need to withstand the nasty weather up there. Would a 3+ season tent be ok or is an expedition tent mandatory? Any recommendations on tents would also be appreciated as I haven't bought one yet. Thanks.

What ever you want to carry. Saw folks in bivy bags, 3 season, 4 season, megamids, anything! There is lots of sheltered camp sites.

This year Im taking only my tent fly, even if it rains, that will be fine. And you can always retreat to hut if it gets real hairy.

By the post, I thought you were looking for a tent for bugs ... nice idea! Imagine having a smaller tent that attracts bugs enough for them to ignore the tent you are sleeping in ... nice! Once they have rolled out their sleeping bags ... WHAM! ... squash 'em like the bugs they are!! hj
