The area is heavily peppered with shiny, brand new "No Tresspassing!" signs. Anyone know if this is just to cover themselves or has the property owner had a change of heart toward climbers?

I think the land owner posted the signs because many of the local drug dealers and drinkers would find their way up there. I last time I went up there I ran into a couple of them have a party. They told me that the night before they had got drunk and went 4-wheeling with a Volvo. I guess they were right, because once I walked up the trail there was a Volvo.I far I as know this was the reason for the posting of the signs.

My daughter and I were in there (as far as the pond) exploring the area (looking for the main bouldering area) and we found toooooooooooooo many empty bottles, fire "pits", etc. Why is it that the few have to try to ruin it for the many? But a question: The directions say the road is on the left before the pond. Did we miss it? We were on foot. The main road in was way too muddy for my Saab. How far from the pond (before) is the road? And how far in from the pond is the main area? We only live in Alton so it's nice to have found an area closer that Sandwich Notch. When we find it, that is. Any help appreciated. Al

Hey larryfinenh, I was wondering what side did you enter from, was it the Belmont side or the Gilford side? By your explanation it sound like you were very close to it. It is very difficult to find the trails to the crags. As you first enter the trail is marked with one band of orange tape. The trail might look over grown but once you find the trail you will know your on it. Good luck, Kurt

Hey kb00: We came in from the Belmont side from Rt 107. We turned left at the little cemetary on Rt 107. (Onto Durrell Mtn. Rd., I think it is). Shortly after the end of the paved road we came to a town line sign. believe it was entering Gilmanton. Or did it say Gilford? Sometimes getting old is tough. lol (48). Anyhow, we came in from te Belmont side. I KNOW this muchThe trail to the rocks MUST be pretty vague. Or it could just be we're blind. Thanks, Al |

Hey, The sign said Gilford, You are on the right road but you have a long walk ahead of you, if that is the furthest you have gone. The area is started to developed for housing. This shouldn't get in the way of the climbing area though. Good luck climbing, Kurt
