The only thing that I know about this place is that it is a pretty decent place to climb but it is the only place that I've found outdoors in an hour radius of driving from St. Louis. Either everyone is very secretive of the climbing in Missouri or this state sucks. Clue us in those of you who have info but aren't sharing. Nobody in this state climbs cause they don't know where to go or there simply isn't any, which is extremely hard to believe.

Plenty of places in Illinois within an hours drive of STL. Check out our routes section.

There's gotta be some small routes somewhere closer. I can't hardly believe that there isn't any bouldering. Come on Missouri people, get out there and find it!!!! Or let us know. Don't hold out on us.

Missouri suffers from an abundance of chossy rock. You may occassionaly hear about a 'new area', but it turns out to be a road cut along an interstate, or a rotting old former quarry where it's illegal to climb, anyway.

If you're interested in Missouri, then you should look up the book, Metamorphic Forms, I think, about climbing in Missouri (mostly, if not all, from Columbia, west to Kansas). I'm beginnng to think I've got the wrong name of the book; I think Metamorphic Forms is climbing in the midwest, including Arkansas (it's an okay book, but there are more specific ones available for the areas included in it.) Anyway, the Missouri book is available at REI, Alpine Shop, and maybe even the bookstores.

Other than that, if driving 2+1/2 hours to southern Illinois (not an hour; I've tried, at great risk), is a problem, you can probably get used to going to Upper Limits indoor climbing gym, which is a great climbing gym in St. Louis.

Missouri Limestone Select is a book about Columbia and west climbing.

http://www.pebblepublishing.com/missouri_rock_climbing_bouldering_guidebook_limestone_select.htm

I actually recently found some crags on Missouri Department of Conservation land up in Ralls and Pike county missouri, but i am not 100% sure if it's "allowed" there.

I'm torn between asking specifically and risking someone telling me no, and just continuing to climb there and ask forgiveness later if it's not allowed.

If i find out for sure that it's allowed, I'll post accordingly because there is some decent potential here.
