I'm at Lake Winnipesaukee for the week (Black Cat Island, so the north part of the lake), and was wondering if anyone knows of good bouldering around these parts? I know Rumney is a 50 minute drive, so I'll get up there once or twice, but was hoping for something a bit closer.

Pawtuckaway and Rumney are the only ones I've heard of, and I used to live in Concord, just down the road. Of those, especially if you're at the north end of the lake, I'd sure go for Rumney. Pawtuckaway's a bit of a saga access-wise, whereas Rumney's a chip shot. Probably quite buggy at Pway too, although I'm not sure Rumney's immune on that score...

I would have loved to do routes but its a family vacation so I had a difficult enough time tempting people into joining me, and don't exactly trust them to belay. So I'm sticking to bouldering. So far I have read about 3 different places around Rumney: public utility boulder, blackjack boulders and the pound [EDIT]: bringing family members also means I'm looking for some easy stuff that beginner climbers will also have some fun with, as well as stuff up to V5's to keep me occupied

So, for what it's worth, there is a really fun bolted 5.3 at Rumney called Clippety-Do-Da. Two or three pitches, mellow, beautiful position at the top of the crags. Would be a fine introduction to climbing for someone who was curious, and if you can climb V5 you probably won't be making too much demand on their belaying skills. On the other hand, throwing all this climbing into a lake vacation might be getting you in enough trouble as it is...
