Hmm.... $100 dividend + $60 in unspent gift cards from xmas + who knows what from the REI Visa = new hiking shoes for my wife while I go spend untold amounts somewhere that has what I actually want. Don't get me wrong; I really like having an REI 10 minutes down the road, but they're rather lacking gear-wise. Sadly the only other option is EMS, which is an order of magnitude worse. Unsure

That is true. Once you have a basic rack, REI won't do much for you.

Looks like some new shoes for me this year, the regular kind.

Nice! you beat me. Actually, I'm surprised I actually go that much. I don't actually remember shopping there last year.Cool

That you got any dividend at all displays a lack of spousal solidarity on your behalf. Mad

First of all, it was my opinion that it was the clerk you dealt with and that you should have just gone to a different REI. Second, I show solidarity in almost everything. We're not talking about BIG oil companies here. We're talking about a retail company that when compared to anyone else they have very good business practices. The fact that they didn't take back a book that probably wasn't even bought there in the first place, is no reason to expect me to boycott them too Wink

BTW, I love you, honey!!!!Angelic

Your bro said he bought it there. You calling him a liar?

Oh he did? I thought we made that up. I don't think I would call him a liar. A doofus? A dork? but probably not a liar Cool

She doesn't nag me about climbing. If she knew how she would probably pack my gear for me so I could leave faster. I think she enjoys her "husband free" time.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but one of my best friends had a girlfriend like that, pushing him out the door on climbing trips and what not, because it was easier to cheat on him when he was out of town for a few days. Just sayin'.

I think I'm going to get a new water filter (mine says PUR on the side, and its been acting up lately) since REI doesn't carry my preferred brand of small cams, and I don't want another #6 C4 just yet.

Nothing at all is wrong with getting a tent.
What I meant to say with my original reply was that I am doing this as well.

Out of curiosity, what tents are you considering?

I just picked up a 70 meter mammut tusk. I have the stoke.

I paid all my tuition with the REI credit card. So basically, I only bought a hat at REI this year and still got a 239$ dividend.

Not as much as last years but still $198 mostly from REI visa. Now i dont know what to get! I have a double rack from yellow master cam through #3 camalot.

Was thinking of adding ascenders, #5, #6 C4's. Maybe offset mastercams. Maybe a pink and black tri cams,

new thermarest?

so many possibilities. Though the dividend is stating to run itself out of climbing gear at REI as they dont carry pins and other aid gear i want. Guess ill have to find a job...

It's cute when people subtract their REI dividend from what they're spending. I mean, the dividend is as good as cash; all you have to do is ask for it as cash. REI does a great job though of making people feel like they're saving money by combining the 20% off coupon with the dividend on something they wouldn't have bought otherwise.

You can only request a check within a certain window of time. That's what I did with my last dividend, too.

I got cash after I only spent 1/2 of my dividend. But really how hard is it to cash back if your dividend is only $28?

A new rope. Either sterling or bluewater. I'm still researching though. Unsure
Also, I really want to get some of those trigger wire biners...I dunno if REI has them or not though.

Sterlings are better ropes but bluewaters are cheaper.

Don't get those triggerwires, they serve no purpose and will probably be crappy clipping biners like the rest of the mad rock line.
