I built my first home wall this weekend!!! It's just an 8x8, but that's better than nothing. It only took one day and six trips to the hardware store. I did most of the work with only a power drill and a jigsaw. The total cost including enought holds to get started was about $150. If I can do it anyone can.
Sorry, but I don't have any pics of the wall.

I got the holds from my local gear shop, Summit Hut. I spent about $60 for around 20 holds. Most of the holds came in a bag of jumbo jibs. They make good crimpers and are cheap.

How does that 8x8 treat you? I am really considering making the move to build a wall, but I was thinking that an 8x8 wouldn't be worth the trouble. I don't have a lot of room or money so I'm interested to know if you think its functional.

Is ther an angle or is it just flat???
I am working on a hinged wall that could be released on pullys on top and increase the angle. Then I could pull it up for storage.
Any Ideas....

I was thinking of building something similar to your idea. I was wondering how you would go about doing that and with what supplies. any ideas would be helpful. thanks

Mustclimb69 - my brothers just built a hinged wall similar to the one you're working on. They built it under the deck on the back of their house and it's about 14 high. Starts out with a 45 degree angle then goes to 20 degress before leveling out. Overall it makes for some pretty stout moves.

Hi. My wall will be three 4X8 sheets of 3/4" plywoodjoinde by 2x6's and built like this (wall represents the wall)

The Three angled I's are 2 sheets joined standing up and the top 2 I's represent one peice sideways. The o is a pully system based in the framing studs in my garage and euqlised across all 6 studs. there will be a pocket at the bottom (2x2 drilled into the floorallowing the wall to pivit against the concrete and the wood. The final result is a 8wide x 12 high with one kink and fully adjustable. Bracing on the side and coming across to support the knink is also in there somewhere.

The wall is very functional, I do laps on it until I fall off. It is soooo much better than doing pull ups, and less trouble than going to the gym. I have it hanging on chains. Right now it overhangs by about 10 degrees, if I want it steeper I just make the chains longer. As far as supplies go, I didnt need much. I used about 8 2x4's, 2 sheets of plywood and a bunch of screws. The bottom sits on the floor and the top is anchored into the wall studs with eye bolts. If you make your own holds you could probably build it for even less than I spent.

i built my first woody last spring, its 8x8 and hinged. i ordered my holds from metolius, they make sampler hold kits that come wit a bunch of different kinds of holds. i got the one that was about 100 bones. works awesome, i was thinking about adding on to it but i probably won't as i am poor and leaving on a road trip this summer.
