I'm about to finish Lynn Hill's Climb Free: Life in the Vertical World. I love it. I'm sad to be near the end. Any suggestions for the next read?

Non-climbing related i am reading "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver. Excellent read so far.

Close Calls: Climbing Mishaps and Near Death Experiences by John Long. It is a GREAT read, he is able to get so much humor out of these real incidents and show in really creative ways what NOT to do in those situations. I love his writing style. And Tami Knight's illustrations are really cool. I totally recommend it. The chapter with the guy who tried to use a beer can to pee in way up on a climb and had a sharp..err..mishap...had me on the floor.

Both. I mean, I like to read two books at the same time that are completely opposite. I just picked up an Abraham Lincoln biography so it's kind of slow and predictable. I'd like something racey for balance.

I know this is long but these are some of my most memorable reads.
"kitchen confidential" by anthony bourdain (racy and funny)
"bloodchild: and other stories" by octavia butler (psychological sci-fi)
"native speaker" by chang rae lee (elegant novel w/ beautiful language)
"ender's game" by orson scott card (thoughtful sci-fi w/ character development)
"reason for hope: a spiritual journey" by jane goodall (raises interesting social/environ. ?s)
"lennon: the definitive biography" by ray coleman (interesting and well-researched on john)
"dune" by frank herbert (classic sci-fi w/ good plot)
"a cook's tour" by anthony bourdain (will inspire a trip to vietnam or like restaurant)

Have you read any of Pam Houston's books? Arlene Blum's 'Annapurna' is GREAT. A female climber who writes a good book without whining a la Lene Gammelgard and Heidi Howkins...ugh...
You've probably read Joe Simpsons stuff.....
Fictionally speaking.....I just finished a gem of a book...two actually....In the Fall by Jeffrey Lent and The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon.
So hard to recommend books 'cause everyone's tastes are so different....

Non-climbing (very racy!) ... The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
Climbing ... Into Thin Air. If you haven't read this yet, it's the definition of quick page turner to read whilst recoving from an Abe Lincoln bio.

I'm heading out to the bookstore over lunch and this thread has given me a lot of great ideas.
Here's my suggestion - Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy. Hands down one of my favorite books. 1,000 times better than the movie. Actually I've really enjoyed all of Maeve Binchy's work. Every story is set in Ireland and her character development is amazing.
