Changing the name is the cause of the degeneration. I know because I was the one forced to change the name and I thusly also changed the tenure of the thread to reflect my angst at having to have my creative perspective on history revised because of some fear that a person has that some arcane and unfounded principle qwill prevent some nOOb from seeing the site.
Meanwhile, the post generated over 1800 hits in leass than 24 hours and generated many ad hits as well. Good for the advertisers and the site, but due to the fears and myopic vision, the powers that be decided the title had to go.
In fairness, as an author, I never have had title priviledges in newspaper of other print media. Titles are the domain of the editors. However, having moved into the position of editior, and having been awarded the responsibilities of titling stories for a major newspaper, I knew I could come up with thitles that capture attention and suck in the readers.
And isn't that the point? Increase readership, viewership, members and eventually increase the revenue stream?
As a master of shooting oneself in the foot I am certainly qualified to recognize when others are doing it, and no one does it better than some of the people behind the wizard's screen on this site.

Stannard was a physicist and not a computer guy. However (hint) this guy did climb with Stannard quite a bit, particularly in Stannard's early Gunks days.

So it was someone involved in the old Arpnet and the WELL. University of Southern California maybe? They used military money for the project I think. I read a little about it today.

I don't know what you win, but you are right. Willie Crowther, who was John Stannard's mentor in the Gunks worked for a consortium that won the original contract from the government to build ARPANET. Interestingly enough, IBM was asked by ARPA to submit a proposal, but IBM thought there was no future in this technology.

I tell you what.... for my prize tell me what you think of the climbing in Sedona. What's there? How is it? What in Arizona is better than it? I've never climbed anywhere in AZ, but my brother (not a climber) is there right now (Cottonwood I think) and he loves it. Of course I think he's comparing it to Phoenix, so I'm not sure how valid that is.

OK. Fair enough. It depends on what kind of climbing you want to do. Sedona is sandstone and ranges from good stuff, like on "The Mace" to really crappy stuff. That is likely why Tim Toula titled his guide book to the area A Cheap Way To Die.
Cochise Stronghold has superb multi-pitch routes on granite and also the boulder problem that John Sherman calls the best in Arizona--Bob Murray's Fire Pit Problem.
Flagstaff, AZ has great climbing and bouldering on Dacite, Basalt, Limestone and Sandstone. The list goes on and on.

Living in Nevada, I decided to go to the Bunny Ranch and do a scientific survey.
