I’ve often admired the level of creativity users of RC.com have put behind their user names. Some are very funny and others are so contrived that you’d assume there was some private joke behind their name. So what’s the story behind your RC.com handle? My user name- slave to gravity- dates back from the days before I new what the internet was. Back then I was in my first year of college and somehow managed to find my self working as the sports editor at the college new paper. I didn’t now a dam thing about college sports and the only sporty things I did back then where things like mountain biking, skiing and climbing. The one thing I figured all the sports I new anything about- and consequently wrote about- where all driven buy gravity. So the name of my editorial became Slave To Gravity.

rocknewbie was already taken, so I switched the two words...but newbierock sounded too much like FRAGGLE rock, so I added the "star"...purely tongue-in-cheek, I promise....

I used to be into drag racing. in 1998 I bought a 1993 mustang Gt, built it and raced it, One night i was driving over 130 mph in my home town country side, and a deer galloped out in front of me. Car + speed + animal = a totaled out mustang. It caught on fire and burnt to a crisp, :( anyway, this has been my username since i used to get on all the mustang forum and what not :) fun fun :)

Believe it or knott, I've had at least 3 people that were dumb enough to take my name seriously over the years, and spout-off about me "calling myself hardman" -- or some other such nonsense. And believe it or knott, one well-known user of this site actually took an early version of My profile seriously enough to post about it on rec.climbing -- which is why it exists in its present form. To this day, I still laugh when I think about that one... Hardman Knott

From my website, maculated.com I have started identifying with my username/email address so long I answer to it now. It is pretty convienent that it coincides with my last name, too. (McNamara) BVB, hands down, you win.

My two best friends, who happen to be the ones that got me climbing, have been calling me that since the day they met me. When we are together, my smile never leaves my face, hence the name Smilingone.

From a commercial from probably around 1995-96. It was for some soda(Surge I think) and they talked about Jooky Juice. Or something. I don't really remember, I made the name in like the fourth grade...

way back when I first started climbing( a whole 4 months ago... I bet your all jealous now! haha!!) I didnt really trust the gear.... So therefore I would do alot of bouldering, since Then I got me some big balls (finnaly hit puberty lol) and then Took on elcap (Well more of a 50' climb in joshuatree But it was elcap to me) and now Im not so afraid of the gear failing (PLEASE GOD LET THE PERSON SETTING THE ANCHORS KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!!!!!!) or falling and dieing.... but that is how I got my name

One day climbing at the local crag, a friend and myself nearly collided on a top rope. Maytag-ing is a surfer term for when the wave takes you down so hard that you are rolling in the reef like you would be in a Maytag washing machine. Hence my name, dontmaytagme. :) ja.

Well I was reading a review about a climbing accident on Temple Crag here on one of RC.com's forums. Somebody was spouting off about how members of Inyo Search and Rescue (SAR) blow everything out of proportion when reporting technical rescues. Since I was a member of the team on that particular mission :x I blew up, signed in (for the first time), and commenced to give that person an eyeful.........Thanks to Lithium, Prozac, & an "Anger Management" class all is right w/ the world now, at least in my hazy eyes. 8^)
