See, you have a great idea and a great design for a website, improve the photography department and you could take off. Who knows? And it doesn't matter if the girls are on 5.11's or 5.7's, they need to be good pics for a site like yours.

Carla: Get down to the video store and rent The Wild Bunch or One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest. Neither one has anything to do with climbing but they're both much better than Cliffhanger. As far as the site, don't get discouraged but everyone is pretty dead on regarding the pics. There are just so many amazing shots out there that you've got to be damn good to keep up. I agree with Andy that the angle is what's going to make the shot. You'll have to rig so your photographer is above or beside the climber, preferably right at the crux or right after the crux when you get that big smile on your face because you know it's in the bag.

OK then, since you and your boyfriend obviously have a lot of talent, why not ask him to sew cool tank tops and chalkbags & such -- I think there would be a demand for that. Just an idea. I would also like to see the gear rack he designed. I think you could have a great site if you just modified it a little and focused on one thing or the other, either selling stuff to athletes or providing modeling services. If you want to sell modeling services, then by all means do so but realize that you should be targeting different people.

That site kicks ass. Don't listen to them, Carla. You keep doing what you are doing. It's fun and funny. To everyone with sticks up your butts: SHAME ON YOU. DO YOU NOT REMEMBER THE BROTHEL EPISODE OF THE SIMPSONS ??!? "We put the spring in Springfield..."

well.... I can say mountian biking in a bikini... well, disturbing, when my mind goes into mountain biking mode I think of laying int he hospital taking fluid, salt crystals burning my face, dirt ground into bloody wounds and high speed action, not a bikini.. Shots, angles, bad photo's, bad angles, etc, maybe to a non climber, they may dig the photos, but when I see someon in a bikini, smiling, on top rop, bad angle, it messes with me a little, not as disturbing as mountain biking in a bikini.. but still disturbing. I love to see great shots of women climbing, but it ain't to see some T&A, prana makes some great stuff for chicks to climb in, sexy, but you ain't lookin at bikini's, and if the photo doesnt show passion in the climber, forget it, no angle nor thong bikini butt floss is gonna do it for me, nothing sexier than a chick gettin down with some rock or something, for real, not for posing....

Carla, Having graduated with a degree in visual communication in multimedia, the site layout KICKS ASS... the photos (the pics WITHOUT the ladies) are well placed, and I think this site could be f---ing awesome if the content was different...I'm not urging you to go totally against your original idea, as I have no right to do so, but the way it is now isn't doing the trick... And like mtngeo stated, you're also hitting a pretty sensitive nerve when it comes to the women "climbing" in bikini's and to see our viewpoint on this, see here: http://www.rockclimbing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=17878&forum=56&41 Your work is very creative and artistic, and I urge you to follow your heart, as the rest will follow. George, ya done did it again... I'm beeming and your wife is ONE LUCKY GAL

Sorry, I can't leave this one alone... if she took a dive off that bike in that outfit, she'd be going back naked... Rocks hurt, dirt with rocks hurt, exposed skin to dirt and sharp rocks hurt.... I can almost see climbing in a bikni, shorts and bikini top, definetly, but dang, mountain biking in a bikini! At least there was helmet... tell me, wouldn't your arse get REALLY REALLY REALLY soar VERY VERY quickly?

To clarify my earlier comment about the women being "butt ugly" (I can't believe I wrote it that way): They are ugly to me in the way they are presented on the site. If you put some proper clothes on the same women, you'd get a very different reaction. Nice mountain biking gear, cool climbing clothes. A little more evidence of actually doing the sport (ie not stupid posed photos) and then these same women would be beautiful.

Carla, Thanks for posting more information, it better helps us to understand where you are coming from. Glad we didn't scare you off and I hope our feedback helps you to really think about what you're trying to do and which audience you are trying to reach. Please consider, too, how your site portrays women. Perhaps you are too influenced by your boyfriend's ideas to notice that as it stands, the site does nothing to contribute to the positive image of female athletes. Hope that our comments can help shape this project into something better (both for your business, and for the representation of females). Yes, the overall design of the site was good and navigation seemed to be easy (although I ran into a few bugs in your biking section). The zine pages are still a little 'busy' (for my liking), and certainly, improvements in the quality of the 'tips' and photographs are greatly needed. Best of luck. kelly

I have to agree with the majority on this one. The thing about men or women climbing is that we don't have to put on bikinis to show how sexy we are when we climb. The appeal to a climbing community is when the sex appeal is obvious and oozes rampantly from climbers who love the rock and love to climb. It shows in their movement and in the way their bodies flow on the rock. Climbing is very sexy but when you put a chick in a bikini and slap her up on some whimpy climb, it just makes her look stupid and desperate for attention. Regardless of how good she looks - desperate for attention does not = sexy. [ This Message was edited by: tracyroach on 2002-10-18 15:05 ]

The sad thing is that some group actuallly put time into designing that ponitless site, but it is based around low quality photos of non-athletes. It's just a way to display company banners without actually having any real site. IT'S PATHETIC, BUT GOT US ALL TO GO...SO I GUESS IT ACCOMPLISHED ITS JOB.

O.k. this makes me really sad! I can't believe a woman of all people would create this site and stand behind it!. Don't you have any respect for yourself and these dumb and mis-guided women? There is nothing I can't stand more than looking at magazines and pictures of climbing women when their main purpose is to show them as sexy and provacative! I would much rather see a girl that climbs hard with her hair f'd up and no make-up the way real climbers are! These are not real climbers they are bimbos! Ah! This makes me mad! Please do something that shows a woman respectfully instead of like this! [ This Message was edited by: froggy on 2002-10-18 17:55 ]

I cant belive I wasnt at Stoney that day! Actually I have to agree with what was said by many here, first the site isnt to bad, but the pics are lame. Maybe you should get a professional photographer to take pics there are lots of climbing pics out there with beatiful women really climbing that show what i think you were going for (good looking girls being atheltic). there are some good examples on this site even. heres a couple examples: http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=ListPhoto&PhotoID=7866 http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=ListPhoto&PhotoID=7665 http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=ListPhoto&PhotoID=7843 http://www.rockclimbing.com/photos.php?Action=ListPhoto&PhotoID=7777 You see Carla it can be done showing CLIMBING with climbers being good looking woman NOT showing half naked woman on top rope on easy routes showing flesh or girls spreading there legs trying to = gymnastics, just my opinon though. I can't believe they actually closed the site just because of a few posts. That is very sad. Some people put a lot of effort into their site, and now its closed. Somepeople should feel very bad right now.
