Goal for this week is to find a teenie-tiny truck.
That is all for now.

Glad to hear you got there. What's it like to have all that free time on your hands?

Good. I have been relatively busy.
Bought health insurance
Bought a new sleeping bag
Bought laptop
Looking at trucks
Making plans to climb (including with Epoch, I'll let you know if he's also an asshole in real life)Wink
Looking at r00tes out west.
Making plans with partners
Reading
Playing guitar
Drinking beer
Seeing friends
Good stuff!
Fixed that for you.

I hope you have money left over to go travel.

This was part of the budget.
I need health insurance.
My only sleeping bad is rated to 0. Won't need that.
the laptop was a bit of a luxury, but I'll use it. I needed a new computer anyway, and I got a really good deal
get the Verizon aircard, too.

they're fairly fast, and work most anywhere.

I'm currently riding shotgun on the way home from Cheyenne, and with the exception of a few areas I've been online the entire way.

you ARE planning on stoppin in SL, UT on your trip, right? For if nothing else, the opportunity to see if I'm the donnie i appear to be?
When I was making the decision about how I should equip myself with internet at home I went through the debate between dial-up, cable broadband, and a VZW air card. For my uses I could have used any one of the three and would have been fine. Though I weighed the total value of each option and in the end opted for the VZW air card. IMO it is the best decision I made regarding connectivity. As Sty mentioned, you get service just about anywhere you get cell coverage. I don't think I'll ever go back. Plus I still have the option to use wireless when available. The cool thing is being hooked into a GPS program on the laptop and getting live updates as I'm driving. My GF once did her homework on the way to a snowboarding weekend as I drived. It has been a good investment.

I've heard from a few people that it was nice. Mostly in DC, because you can get access while underground on the metro. How much does it cost?

I'm mainly using the computer to write on while I'm on the road and to store pix. Email, too, of course, but (aside from the convienience) why pay when I can get free WIFI almost anywhere?
At $60 a month it beats sitting in McDonalds or scouring to find a WI-FI hotspot at a coffee shop and trying to find a seat. Plus at businesses you are obligated to be a customer to use thier "free" WI-FI. Again, not everything is free. The added convienence of being able to sit at a rest-area online is nice too. I like it when traveling for work, as I have internet all the way up until the aircraft doors close and I'm required to turn my computer off, without being dependant on that $5 access fee - or whatever they are charging now. And - AND - I don't have to find that hotel or campsite that has WI-FI as part of the package. The convienences are limitless.

I was once there in the debate about what to get. I am satisfied about my decision. If you haven't made a decision by the time we climb, I'll bring my laptop so that you can better see what you'll be getting.

The one thing I am missing is a DC - AC converter. They have one that I want that rotates through Woot! every now and again but I haven't been online to score it when it does. Definately invest in one as you won't need to find an outlet. You will be totally mobile; free of traditional internet constraints.

Cobra makes a few nice inverters. My laptop's cord unit says it takes 90W of power, so a 200W inverter gives me plenty of spare capacity. I got the 400w one at a Flyin' J truck stop for maybe 40 bucks, I can power a few items all at once if need be.

Another nice feature on the work lappy is that it has a additional cigarette-lighter plug cord for my power supply, so no inverter necessary!

And that is why 75% of the harnesses on the market suck ass. IMHO that is a major issue. Its just fucking stupid. The thing is most people (n00bs) are to stupid to notice.

It could all be easily fixed if they would put two of those fancy buckles on the waist belt. But if they do that then they put buckles and extra shit on everything else.

Way back in the day Petzl harnesses were really bad in that respect. The padded part was the same size for all the sizes and the would just put a longer tail on the belt. Then they would attach the legloops to the back where it seemed like the middle. They had that attachment point in the middle of the gear loops sometimes and the "side" loops would be in the back of the harness!Crazy

Most harnesses on the market are teh suck.

I was lookgin at getting both a Bigwall harness for the planned aid and for mty new routing (better racking system and hammer holster built in, more comfy on extended hanging belays while you're waiting for buddy to figure out the pitch...), and gettting a new allround type harnes LIGHTER than the Yates Bigwall.
Got the Yates Bigwall... but...
Well fuck me, I can't find a dam harness I liek enought to spend my money on. So currently I'm doing all my climbing in a Yates bigwall. Except Alpine, I'm still using my old BD DairyQueen Blizzard for that.

Thanks for the info, it is something to think about.

The $60 price tag...hmm...I wish they had a "try it free" thing going on or something.

Maybe I'll clock you with a grigri and steal yoursLaugh
I dare you. I carry hexs in a bolo fashon and can kill small game with them..
Do either of you own a #7 tricam?
I sure do.

I think it would be fun to complet my tricam set. The big ones look intimidating. Though, I have placed the big ones - borrowed off a friend's rack in Tahoe.

I can give you a good price on a real truck.

I'll trade you my black powercam and a six pack of brew.
Could you make it a case and throw in a couple more cams?

Supercam ok? I don't use that one as much.

I'll make it a case of premo stuff, too.
Plus your car?

That is retarded.
Was the jump like this? You know, the harness that everyone was obsessed with.

I'm suprised at that...bad job, petzl. Evidently they haven't totally fixed it.
I think all the harnesses they made in the larger sizes were like that. I don't think anyone cared though since everyone was enthralled with sportclimbing back then and was anorexic and could fit into the XS's that were put together right.

The problem stems form the same thing, but isn't as bad now. A lot of companies have that problem with their harnesses. Especially if you don't tighten them all the way down as small as they will go.

I hate being the breac winner.

And even with all this overtime I still feel like we're living paycheck to paycheck. I just keep thinking to when Nathan gets the kitchen cabinet doors done...we'll then have to buy the countertop...and a new stove...and new light (which will include more wiring).....and new tile....and a dumpster to carry all the old stuff away.

Ugh.
Are you guys trying to flip the house or is this a perminant thing? If it's perminant, then why haven't you harped on Nate to get a jorb - at leas a PT one - now that he's a card-carrying alien?
Not a perminant thing, but we'll be around for at least another year here and to get money for this place we need to replace the 70's style kitchen for something modern.

Yes, Nathan should go get a job. I have told him to look up a few companies and apply. Why he's so good at putting stuff like that off only he can tell you.

This house thing is killing me. But I think we're too far into it not to finish both the kitchen and the bathroom. Only time will tell if everything has been worth it.

Yeah, well, that's what I get for taking advantage of an innernet deal. Unsure It still does the jorb, but I'll choose something else next time. Perhaps a Metollius, I'm not sure. I've always been a BD user and this, for my fifth harness, was a change.

Yes.... "proper" wiggling cannot be achieved in a 0C bag.... and make sure when you use an air mattress it's above about 10C.... the air cushion becomes the same temp as the surrounding air and can give you pneumonia.... no matter how much wiggling you do.

Yeah, most have some really nice features. Unfortunately those features don't really overcome the shortcomings.

I'd been climbing on my old TS model for way to long and had to b=suck it up and settle on a harness I wasn't completely psyched about. Fucking Arcteryx! I blame them. I was happy with the harnesses they made and that was pretty much all I ever owned. Now they had to go and make them all fancy. I'm very not impressed with the new ones.

I hear ya. The ORIGINAL Blizzard was a kick ass harness... then they changed it Mad

I'm going to have to keep looking gor a general use harness, untill then I'll use the Yates Bigwall for everything, bulky, but comfy and actually has a good gearloop/racking system.
