The example that should set for people is that you can still smoke weed and be athletic, strong, with it, successful, the best rock climber in the world, the president of the US, and anything else. It's not going to make you murderous, psychotic, lazy, or stupid -- or at least no more than TV will. And at least the ICC and/or the IOC could admit, "we're just old fuddy duddies that think it's wrong, and we think we should be the morality police," and stop pretending its a performance enhancer, or whatever other reason they give for banning it.

If he smokes, he smokes. If he wants to compete, let him follow the rules of the competition. If you can't follow the rules, then you don't deserve the award/prize/title/acclaim etc... When you enter a competition, you agree to the rules of that competition, be it Formula 1, or weekend softball. I don't smoke, but I do think it should be legalized and regulated along the same lines as alcohol. Before you get on your soapbox about "it's only pot", caffeine is also a substance that too much of in your system will get you booted out of some competitions.

In reply to: Should he sacrifice his life for us? Yes. We should nail him to a cross and leave him hanging to die a slow death. Let the crows eat out his eyes while he's still kicking! Yeah! What a loser. DMT

In reply to: Kids aren't going to be sitting at some crag smokin' a doob going, "Man, I am so cooooool. Sharma does this, too." Not necessarily true. People in general are quite impressionable, kids even more so. Look at how well Jordon's shoes sell....especially to kids.
In reply to: Give me a break. Let's remember, we are talking about a plant folks. Although I am an American, a Westerner to some, let's be honest here, its harmless, in fact it is legal in some countries, the more open-minded, less corporate oil driven ones in my opinion. If anything it has more positive effects than it does negative ones. Many plants (i.e. Opium) can cause plenty of harm...including pot. It is like any other drug or alcohol...it gets you "high" (and kills brain cells...some more so than others). If you're going to discriminate against one, don't be hypocritical and do so against all.
In reply to: uh, you are going to be hard pressed to find a pro climber who doesn't smoke pot. Stupid statement (unless you know the majority of pro climbers, of course  ) However, there is nothing truly immoral about the use of pot, so smoke away.

I never smoked any pot with him, only hash, and only a bowl or two.

The Michael Jordan of our sport? This isn't even a sport. What Jordan and Sharma have in common is that they are commercials, meant only to sell you things that you probably do not need or even really want, much like Ronald McDonald and the Hamburglar. If you want people to look up to that, maybe you should be smoking some weed (as we all probably should). Outside of that, Sharma is a climber, like you and me. He climbs stuff. Big deal.

All with 20 lbs of water and 1st aid gear on my back. Does this make me a criminal, or a performance athlete with a drug habit, or both ? Find me 10 confirmed deaths *ever* due to pot use. Now find me 100k due to alcohol and tobacco, this year alone. Now tell me why its illegal...

I respect Sharma but do not idolize him. I dont recall him being dubbed the Mike Jordan of climbing. He climbs because he likes it and has done a great job of helping our sport grow. What ever he does in his spare time is fine with me. It's not like he aided up 5.15's and then lied and claimed he lead them. People need to realize that climbing is a sport you do to test your self and have fun. Ane there isnt a climber out there who makes millions like other pro athletes even though they are working just as hard or harder to become better at their chosen sport. Thank you pass the Visene.

He can do what he wants. Do you think that you have to do it just because he does? Do you think it will make you send harder? Good luck! You praise him for his climbing not for being a positive roled model in all aspects of life. Just my 2 cents.

In reply to: Big deal if he smokes pot. I know a lot of people that do. Heck even our own president has before. I think your president has done more than that. In fact I think Sharma would make a much better president than Bush. He certainly seems more honest and trustworthy. Probably be less fighting, too. Evil nasty weed   P.S - 80% of my cricket team smoke pot and we dominate!!!!

In reply to: I've heard this from several people... is it true, or just a rumor? He is the Michael Jordan of our sport. shouldn't he be setting a better example? Who bloody cares. He could climb copious circles around you and probably every single person to ever look at this site, relaly, who cares?

To the first poster: That is only Sharma's business! Who cares if any person in the world smoke or do whatever he/she wants? I don't use drugs, I don't need them. So? It only concerns to me! I find this kind of questions absurd.

So what if he does, watch Dosage 1, after he climbs that 5.15. Its just a little obvious. I don't smoke anything, don't inject anything, don't snort anything, and I hardly ever drink. Whatever he does is his business. I just won't be climbing with anyone who does smoke.
