Headphones are one thing, but when your blasting music (of any kind) it is annoying, especially in nature. If you were in Newark youd expect it, but not in the sticks. However, you could try asking them nicely to turn it down, which if they dont have enough decency to do so without being told, they probably wont. Then, if they say no, go ahead and do your thing and kill em, i guess. whatever works.

Get with modern age... User your Ipod with headphones and quit disturbing everyone around you. If you want to listen to the same music as your buddies.. well then.. Just program them up with the same tunes. Problem solved.

Just do what I do. I bring my own boom box and crank some "Nature Sounds" Just crank the nature sounds so that it is louder than the music and you'll be set. Or better yet, listen to the nature sounds on your iPod with your headphones.

In Jtree this is guaranteed to be a painful proposition. Although, Whale Sounds of the Aleutian Islands is always an appropriate selection.

Well actually, don't make the mistake I did and be careful which native animal sounds you crank. I had a bear show up looking for the sound of the wounded goat, and later a moose showed up and tried to hump me...

With regard to having the music turned down... If you don't have the balls to say "turn your shitty music down" (or whatever), you can always phrase it as a safety issue, "can you guys turn that (shit) off because we can't hear eachother".

If someone's rocking a boom box at the crag, unless it's something I don't mind listening to I'm going to walk over and politely ask that they turn it off. If they refuse I'm going to politely excercise my right to trundle their boombox right the fuck off the crag, and if that means I've got an asswhipping coming, at least I'll be able to hear the birds chirping while I'm getting the shit stomped out of me.

If so, you really are a crummy person.

pathETICJAMES, only asshats and poseurs grunt and holler when climbing... A vast majority of people would expect quiet when in a natural setting. Hence, the word natural. The myopic geny attitude you and others on this board share will be the ruin of access...yes it wil...
