Rules: * Get the book nearest to you. Right now, NOW dammit. * Go to page 56. * Find the 5th sentence. * Write this sentence in your post now, NOW. * Don't look for your favourite book or your coolest but really the nearest. (Climbing Anchors by John Long) reads; To remove passive nuts, first try a gentle aproach, wiggling the piece out the way it went in.

In terms of MMPs, there have been a number of studies measuring MMP activity in CWF, but many of these studies have only used general techniques to identify a broad range of MMPs e.g. the Azocoll assay, gelatin zymography, and antibody detection. Exciting stuff, huh?

well oddly enough I have two books both within an equidistant reach on either side of my monitor, seriously. neither one is closer to me than the other at my left hand, Machinery's Handbook 16th edition umm, okay, but its not a paragraph, its a table so : 10 1/2 32.9867 86.590 (in Mathematical Tables, Circumference and Areas of Circles, diameter, circumference, area) and, at my right hand "And we admitted also that what was done in opposite ways was done by opposites?" Essential Thinkers: Plato, "Protagoras"

It's definitely a strange read, and I agree, the tone fits perfectly. I ate it up in one sitting on a very rainy Sunday. Not one of my favorite books, but worth a read. -F

"There was no real monitoring system in place, there were no evacuation procedures." Yea, I know, that should be a semicolon. But that's how it's written. "No Apparent Danger" Victoria Bruce (account of two volcanic disasters...not a bad read IMO)

Dang Phil, interesting snapshot of the backgrounds of RC'ers! Judging solely on the face of it, bar a couple guide book posts, I wouldn't be able to guess the community. What a diverse and integliggent lot you all is. Still like the Calvin and Hobbes best so far though...

From Arboretum by David Byrne, a book of word art/poems structured by sketches/creative flowcharts/word association (it really is quite difficult to describe), the 5th concept (starting from the upper left and going left to right, top to bottom) on page 56 is "alienation". Hey, you asked.

I cleaned my room, so now there is a other book closer to me. However the topic did not change, form Glaciers, by Peter G. Knight: "For example, real galciers generally do not have horizonmtal beds, do not vary in thickness and surface temperature steadily with distance from the centre-line, and are not necessarily in a steady state" I think its quite interesting how many "geeky" books are close to a great percentage of the RC population. If one randomly browses the threads on this site, one would rahter think that most people go "hu? hvat is a book? Is it them strange tings with lettres in there? U R teh Gay!" qwert

I would still guess that a large number of RC.noob members do NOT, in fact, read books, but most of those folks aren't gonna be posting here any time soon.

Graphic novels count don't they? Neil Gaiman's Sandman: The Doll's House reads "But I knew his father -- or perhaps it was his grandfather." The closest "real" book is A Hitchcock Reader, a textbook for one of my previous film classes. It reads "He told graphic artist and filmmaker Saul Bass that although North by Northwest had run out of money, it still needed a dynamic opening."

"This area attracts and retains a large and dedicated group of ski mountaineers and free-heel skiers. Excellent ice climbing is found in Ogden to the north and Provo to the south" - Ice Climbing Utah by David S. Black The other book nearby is a comic book series my 9-y.o. son is reading: "Bone- Out From Boneville" and on pg. 56, in the 5th frame, is a mischievious little red dragon, who lives in a well and materializes only to Bone: "Actually I jsut want her to think you're nuts!" and Bone says: "Oh Shut Up!"
