Robb and Foo, I'll defintely be there! Got the OK from the Boss and everything so I'm good to go. Maybe that new guy Jppos who was looking for RI climbers, too. Just sent him a PM about it. I bet once Jake drags his A$$ outta bed he'll chime in in the affirmative as well. See you all there.

And Robb, NO more breaking the threads man!!

Huh? :?: :?:  No but I gotta spare... So it looks like jppos won't be joining, harness and shoes are at home. Is it a sign of sickness that I always make sure my gear's in the car?

Naah dude, I seem to have misplaced the blue&black finger bag that I usually give to shane to use, I thought I left it at CR last tuesday, shoving it into somebody else's back pack because I was distracted by the , umm, scenery, if you recall. I also forgot my grigri that night, though it was there slung to the belay anchor the next morning.

maybe jake has it... I jsut went to REI and bought another one anyway with some block chalk...

Robb you know that knot thinggy you showed me, "figure 8 on a bite" do u think i could use that knot for the end part of the anchor that i sling over teh edge for the biners and rope, instead of the regular water knot loop.

if that is the same knot i think it is but i call it a internal water knot then yes you can use it for that and most anything that you use webbing for

also robbo as the other thread is now locked ill answer you here if i had known about cr today i would have gone but i havent actually been on my computer at all today until just now. ive spent most of the day cutting my cars in half trying to make one good one let me know what your doing tomorrow maybe i can put the torch down long enough to get a few climbs in

Evan, that's what I was doing with your slings to get the most length out of them. Figure eight on a bight on each end

there's knot databases around that'll show you how.

tie a figure eight making a loop on one end for the biners, tie the other end around the tree, just like you tie the figure eight into your harness, get it?. same thing for the anchor's second sling.

dude, CR was MAD busy tonight. at one point I actually had to wait to get on my own rope!, and I had it slung on two anchors! hadda be 25 people there all climbing. I didn't repeat excersize damn it, I did it with tiored hands again, and DAMN that toe jam hurts with my MRs...though i stuck it longer this time than the last. I have the moves right UP to mid crack wired though...it'll fall again soon.

Dovaka, lemme see what's up for tomorrow climbing, kids mom is off to B-freind's overnight, I gotta parent after I get home from work. I DO want to try to get there, but it may be for only an hour or so. kind've a drive-by. I'll let you know for sure tomorrow

Was there too, what a rough day! I've never gone to any place where they didn't need another rope! CR is a great place to climb though, great problems and really buckety holds for the beginners. Fun (but buggy) day. Robbovius, did you get my blue webbing b/c I came home with purple!

Oi!

Foo yeah missed ya doooood...it was sooooo fricken busy. like i said, there were times I was waiting around just to get on my own rope. was a good night though, my arms still feel pumped this am, and my left bigtoe is sore I think from sticking that toe jam on excersize...or maybe from wearing my MRs for too long. they're stretching out pretty well but if I leave the on too long the knuckle on my big toe turns all purple...

stprocks, I PMed ya about the webbing, I didn't pull any extra that I know of last night, but it was dark up top when I was cleaning and I haven't looked in the cragbag since...next time we'll have to get Melissa up on the wall more. I think she did fine belaying. there are some practice moves I was taught that she could do at home to really get the hand motions down.

Robb (and anyone else who thinks they know),
remember gilly said he thought a ascent with no falls toproping is "pink point" because "red point" is no falls while placing pro. But ive still been hearing ppl use the term red point at college rock (toproping). Whats the deal?

LOL!!!!

I wouldn't worry aobut the exact definitions too much, I figure when folks talk about redpointing at any toprope gig, what they mean is that they climbed it clean without falling off...and saying "pinkpoint" just sounds swish, man. eeewwww. candyass. so nobody wants to say that. ;-)

if you go back a couple pages, me, Tcollins & Orangekayak talked about this issue, and even farther back in the pages Gilly commented on it too.

I think at some point in the days of the old schoolers, the meaings were very exact, but now there's been a lot of "dilution" of the meanings of the terms because so many more people climb now (and some many more toprope), and have adopted/hijacked the jargon.

that said, if you're around a bunch of hardcases, and mention that you repointed a TR route, expect to get a lecture. "pinkpoint" is probably yhe most correct, though I would't bother correcting anybody at the crag. (rather just whisper about it behind their back. ;-) )

maybe some new terms need to be added to the climbing lexicon to allow for description of toprope accomplishments. or not.

New climbers always get obsessed with the terminology. It's all just climbing. If you tell 100 climbers that you climbed X-route, most will say, "Hey, nice work" and probably only five will ask if it was an onsight or a redpoint or a top rope or whatever. If you tell 100 climbers that you redpointed a route then suddenly 50 of them will bash you and tell you it was only a pinkpoint and 30 others will tell you that toproping isn't really climbing and the remaining 20 will just spray about the sick new route they just did and how they are much better climbers than you. forget about the terms. If you toprope a route and fall three times doing it, but finally make it up and feel good about your performance, then that's all that matters.

Hi EJ, aand all,

Concerning red vs. pink vs. any other color; It really doesn't matter. Lets just climb, have fun, and give each other cr--
95% of the time I just like to see the reaction. I apologise for bringing the whole thing up to begin with.

John Long, in his book " Learning to Rock Climb " ( I believe ) gives the best and most humorous definitions that I have seen.

Don't sweat it, have fun, and lets grumble about the crowds.

Jeff,

If I can make it on Sunday, I'd probably be driving back up from Mass (after driving home from Mt. Washington the night before). Is anyone going up then? Or is everyone going to be up north already?
