Im suprised that no one noticed the problem with the picture of the shirtless young man from famousmales.com. his harness wasnt double backed! how could that go unnoticed! and i also think it goes to show that these 'celeb' 'climbers' arent really climbers. theyre intrested in climbing about as much as iam in indy car driving.

The shot was not taken while climbing, so He could be pausing to rwflect on his being the greatest race driver in the world; to bask in his own sunlight as it were, after only half removing the harness. Plus, it looks much sexier that way. B

I heard an interview on the radio w/ Lisa Marie Presley after her album came out. She was talking about how it was hard for her to get started in music because, already being famous, she would not have the luxury of most aspring musicians of doing the garage band/local bar thing to work out her material and performace skills. Everyone would expect perfection out of her from the get go and cruicify her for any mistake that she made as she learned. I wonder if this type of bashing keeps more famous people out of climbing? It would seem that in LA there would be enough famous people that might be intrigued to hire a guide at JT or swing by Rockreation and see what the whole climbing gym things is all about, except that going somewhere so high profile is almost sure to win them an unattractive photo in a tabloid talking about how bad they flailed. I'm glad no one was paying attention when I was panicking 15 feet off the ground my first time at the gym.

Robert Kennedy climbed Denali with the first American to summit on Everest. I think it was Whitaker. He was president of REI for many years and and a very accomplished climber. He had been to the White house and awarded by president Kennedy for Everest. They hit it off and I think it was after John's assination that Robert climbed with him. No time to google all this now. Frank Wells who was predecsor to Eisner at Disney was an accomplished mountaineer. He and a CEO named Bass from Texas were doing all the seven summits. May have completed it before being killed in a heli-ski accident in early nineties. And don't forget Captain Kirk in that Star Trek movie.

I was climbing in Echo Cove at J-Tree and saw Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston bouldering there with a guide. This was about 3 years ago.

In reply to: Stop living your life vicariously through "celebrities" :!: Who Cares if so and so climbs .... Uh...? Gimme one good reason not to gossip about celebrities. If you read climbing magazines you'll gossip about Sharma & others. What's the difference if it's Lucy Liu this time?

Hey, I've seen Ewan Mcgregor (sp?) with Charley Boorman (they did a world moterbike trip together, The Long Way Round) and Jack Osborne (climbing f4a) at the wall where I work. Got to chat to Ewan, who was really cool and just interested in learning loads about it. Now me and him climb together all the time (hehe i wish) Rob

This is the photo. Even though the photo shows that she is in the set filming, because of the wire that you can see, I read that she climbs as a sport as well. I might be wrong but I did not find any info that says the opposite. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=44336

As a defense, which I shouldn't give an iota about philosophically, I am not thinking of those we can live vicariously through. This is not that sort of a thread. I was just curious. Although I must say it took 4 pages to get to the flaming, and I am proud of that. Plus, part of what this website is for, is to live vicariously through the exploits of our fellow RC.com-ers? I mean, if we were climbing, we would not be posting would we? Also, it would be nice, what with access issues a problem, to know if some local celeb, or respected person in one's community shared your love for the rock. Their clout could re-open, or help prevent the closure of a crag. This is why I specifically asked for minor/local celebs as well. Blur

I can't believe no one mentioned Andy Serkis, the guy that played golum in lord of the rings. Has any one got a photo of golum placing a cam that they can post. I read a inteview with him in a magazine where they talk about him doing that photo of golum climbing with the film crew, it turns out he is a serious climber, he went to university near the peak district so he could climb. He is the only celeb climber I can think of that isn't just some one that top roped for a movie stunt and had fun so they climb at a gym from time to time. Any way loads of people have toproped a bit at a gym or summer camp and call them selves serious climbers, it's not that they are looking for attention for being hard core its that that is all they think there is to climbing and couldn't even explain "how people get the rope up there." the other thing is celebs tend to have lots of money so we shouldn't be surprised that they would hire a guide to take them up denali or everest. Andy Serkis in the only celeb that I could picture sleeping in some one's backyard near rumney or chilling out at camp four not just on a TR at the gym or being guided up some high altitude hike.

In reply to: Hugh Jackman showed up to climb at the local climbing gym Allez Up. Turns out he's not really a climber and is only there because he'll be doing some climbing in the movie he's filming and needs to learn how.

Umm yea i heard Ewan McGregor (aka most gorgeous man alive) is on some climbing trip now or he was justt now. This could be total blarney but i wouldn't be surprised if it were true. I would give anything to teach him how to set up a top rope or something!

That's an affirmative on Jennifer Connelly.....climbed routes with her and unnamed beau at Williamson about eight years ago (Mulholland Falls/Dark City era...) She was pushing 10.b/c, I was pretty stunned and impressed.

I saw Ann Currie from the Today Show climb Edwards Crack at Vedauwoo (5.7 crack climb) She was being guided and filmed for the show. The voices in my head keep telling me that I'm a famous climber. I try not to listen, but I'm starting to believe them.

Patrick Edlinger For those of you who saw his "biography" movie: "La vie au bout des doigts" You can see him soloing a route in Verdon (France) and doing his famous pm finger (the smallest one) pull up. IMO, a must see.
