In reply to: I can't believe no one mentioned Andy Serkis, the guy that played golum in lord of the rings. Has any one got a photo of golum placing a cam that they can post. I read a inteview with him in a magazine where they talk about him doing that photo of golum climbing with the film crew, it turns out he is a serious climber, That's Right! I read that he based his characters movements by his (AS's) rock climbing experience. I once saw this ridiculous photo of, I think, Lil Kim TR'ing in some sort of 'Versace' climbing outfit.

In reply to: he's "pacey" in dawson's creek, was in some other teeny bopper movies, and was "charlie" when he was little in the mighty ducks. not big time or anything, kind of run of the mill... lol. He and the blond girl from that show are actually the best actors off it, I could see him going A list with the correct role for him. He's quiet at the gym, but seems to be a pretty cool guy.

Cathy Silver aka Jenny Piccalo from Happy Days is a climber. She was Joannie Cunningham's best friend on that wicked show. Ah the good old days.

So my local paper runs that new newspaper insert, Life. They had an interview this week with Tom Brokaw about his decision to retire. Climbing was discussed. Check this out: Life: You became an avid rock climber in your mid-40s. Are there any trips in your future? Brokaw: "Something hard. Maybe a winter climb or an alpine trip. Or go off into Montana and do a solo overnight in the wilderness to see if I can still do that - or if I still care about it. It's less about testing yourself physically than it is about cleaning out your head." Life: What was your single toughest climb? Brokaw: Probaby when my friends, including Ivon Chouinard, and I did the Kautz Glacier on Mt Rainier. I had never really done ice climbing before and they gave me a 30-second lesson in crampons and ice ax use. At one point we were going across a very steep patch of black ice, and if you slipped, you would have gone about 1000 feet. I said to Ivon, "We should rope up here," and he said, "No way - if you go, then I go, and I don't want to do that. This is like catching a taxi in New York - every man for himself." It's been helpful to me, to be Ivon's friend... He makes me think about things in new ways. Brokaw is 64. He's been married for 41 years. He grew up in South Dakota. I don't know about you, but for some foolish reason, his stock has just gone way up in my book. Cheers DMT

Eric and Ben Bostrom, who are professional motorcycle racers (AMA superbike) are very serious climbers. They bring their gear with them when they travel for races. From what I have read they climb at Red Rocks and J-tree the most.

Read a local paper about Jared Leto in Cape Town, South Africa and someone was quoted as saying that he was into climbing.

In reply to: bouldering with a guide?? that seems tres weird... A couple of years ago a climber chic whose name I'd barely heard auctioned off a guided bouldering session on e-bay. Thought it was odd then too. Does anyone have a link for the associated "Jason Leibgott Experience"?

In Tulsa we had a city councilman named Todd Houston who has climbed the tallest peaks in every state in the USA. To most of us that would be no big deal, however he is a amputee. He climbed Devils tower this last Memorial day.

In reply to: Patrick Edlinger Patrick Edlinger is a serious climber famous for his very runout sport routes. Heck, the dude had a rope model carrying his name for 15 years.

I suppose Ivon should be spelled Yvon Chouinard. The founder of Black Diamond & Patagonia and a man who has some ethics.
