Maaaaybeeee....maybe this weekend is going to be climbing weather at the Gunks. Yahooo - the season approaches! I can't go out Saturday, but am considering a Sunday outing. Possibly just to go buy some shoes and R&S and have a deliscious salmon burrito before hopping back on the bus, but maybe to head to the cliffs(got to look into car rental - ouch). I am interested in finding some god partners for the season too, whether it is new people or solidifying older partnerships. I would also be interested in mentoring a newish woman climber a bit. Here is my deal: For Potential Partners(including newish women looking for mentor) - I lead up to 5.5G, follow up to 5.8 - Looking to increase confidence and efficiency in leading; hoping to get lots of mileage in the lower grades under my belt and begin leading some 6's this season. - Right now, I have no car, but am hoping to buy one in the next month or two. - I have a dog, Teddy, who often comes with me. He is a good crag dog and has references to support that. - I like to spend weekends up there, preferring to arrive Friday pm, and leave Sunday PM. - During trailwork season(appx. pril through October), I do trail work each Sunday if it's on. Can climb after, but I'm usually pretty tired, so take it easy. - I got gear, f course. - I believe in giving attentive, quality belay(and require the same). For newish women looking for mentors): - I am not looking to teach you skills, as I don't have the level of competence to take responsibility for another person. So - you MUST have some experince climbing outside, as well as a decent understanding on systems. - I will be looking to get leads in on the "under 5.4 routes" with you, for the most part. Put mileage under my harness as a leader. So, this is an opportunity for you to get on the numerous easier, but still thrilling, Gunks routes and build your skills as a second. - I am also interested in doing some TR on harder stuff over at Peterskill, after we have developed a solid foundation. Interested parties can PM me. My profile also has a list of the routes I've been on, and says in the notes if I have led or followed(though it hasn't been updated to include the last month or so from the '06 season). . . . . Anyway..... That's it - Looking forward to seeing everyne out there this year.

Just moved to NY last fall, looking for a mentor so I don't kill myself doing something stupid this summer! April, May, June, or August in the Gunks, or wherever for that matter, anytime of the week just need a couple hours warning. I've been climbing for about a year, really just want to follow someone and learn about building anchors and placing pro. Thanks Ben

My partner and I are heading out this Sunday, May 13 to the Gunks. We can both follow up to 5.8 and my partner has just started leading easy climbs (5.3 - 5.5) but it would be great to have an experienced leader join us, seeing how it is our first outdoor climb of the season. You can PM me or call me at 973-462-2413. Yasmin

Time has come today. I've finished grad school and am moving to the Gunks! Oh sweet, sweet conglomerate roofs...My excitement is only dampened by the fact that I still haven't secured an apartment yet, and I start work on Wednesday. See you all at the cliffs!

I was looking through forums for info about climbing on Long Island and saw your post. Did you have any luck with the North Shore bouldering? I tried looking around when I first moved out here but haven't had much luck or time with it. "Allright I am looking for some people to chill out and climb with. Anyone on Long Island that may be interested in climbing at the rock gym in Plainview? Or perhaps exploring some beach bouldering on the north shore."

Hey everyone, I'm new to RC.com. i'm from PA and looking for a climbing partner for the Gunks this weekend. I can lead up to 5.6 and follow up to 5.9. I have my own gear also. Would prefer to follow someone due to my inexperience at the Gunks, but would be fine leading too. if anyone is free and interested this coming weekend( june 9-10) drop me a line and we can chat. thanks.

Hi, I recently moved to New York. I currently live in Syracuse and I am looking to get out and climb. I am a resident surgeon at a local hospital so I only have one day off per week (currently it is Sunday). If you are interested in climbing, I would like to spend a couple of weekends at Little Falls, and then maybe a few more in the Adirondacks. I have my own gear for leading trad or sport and a few ropes. I am not a phenomenal climber (actually somewhat of a beginner) but I would like to get out climb! If you are interested, shoot me a reply. Rob

Has anyone else found rc.com to have been scare fishing for partners this season? Or...do I have BO or something!???? Used to get tons of people who wanted to climb; the last few months...dry as a bone. Anyway, I posted, yet again, for a partner for this Saturday(Gunks) and have no bites. Thought I'd try here, just in case.... - I will have my rope along - happy to join a party as a 3rd(if you are competant, not looking to join in a party with new leader this weekend) - Can also take photos(I'm not great, but not so bad; my pictures have been appreciated by those who have had me shoot them). - I will NIOT have my rack along, just rope/personal gear. I'm headed out in 15 minutes, so will NOT be able to check back here on RC. I will be camped in Slime, arriving about 7pm. My tent is a Sierra Designs, blue with lt. grey. Stop by before 8:30 on Saturday and I'll be there.

Head to Moss Island this weekend and watch a bit. That is unless you have already climbed. Go buy John Long's Book Climbing Anchors 1st edition., then the 2nd edition as wel. Don't forget his book, How to Rock climb. Hope this helps but this is all I can offer at the current time. Busy, busy, busy I am......

I'm looking to get some climbing in during my vacation wk, Aug 25-31. I lead 5.8G or so, and second 9s and some 10s. I have lots of experience, very safe with my own complete trad/sport rack and ropes. I'm a grad student and have the week off. I live in uptown NYC and can get a ride up and back, if not just take the bus. I met three random guys one wknd in the Gunks off of rockclimbing.com last summer and it worked pretty well. Best, Ben Email is best (not around for PMs much): bikeforhiv at hot mail dot com

Hi, My name is Jeff. I used to live in NJ and would frequent the Gunks to climb often. I now live in CO and will be back East for a visit and looking to spend some time at the Gunks again. Therefore, I am looking for partners between Halloween day and the 5th of November. I can lead up 5.9 comfortably. I have a trad rack. I consider myself a safe climber and I am also knowledgable of self rescue techniques as well. I am planning on camping out during my time at the Gunks and would love to line up some climbing partners for my visit. So, if anybody is interested in roping up together, contact me via cubanoclimber@yahoo.com or give me a call @ 732-232-3944 Bye for now, Jeff

catskillshiker wrote: Hey, Anybody plan on ice climbing in the catskills this winter? Hah! Is there going to be any ice in the Catskills this year? I hope so. I got my first taste of ice climbing last year and would like to do more. Where I'm at, we're a week and a half overdue for a first frost, and I don't see anything that cold in the forecast....
