having lived in NP i can assure you that you getting rides most likely has to do with your gender (no offense intended just a thought) since i know my climber buddies wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting picked up at the hairpin!!! sketchy looking dudes to say the least

So....I dunno! I have and would pick up male hitchikers in the same way, but so far the only dude I've seen was a guy who told me stories of his rappelling antics. He was totally a sport rappeller, into going off gear anchors with redundant set ups and then the hike up to set up/tear down.... The cool little nooks and crannies in the rock, the plants, the free hanging descents.... But he just had no idea at all what fascination a person could find in climbing up the face!

Hey everyone. A couple of friends from ohio and I (connecticut) are planning on heading to the Daks in July. The problem is, I am the only trad leader, and there will be 6 of us. Everyone can however, lead sport. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good sport in the area? I lead up to 11d/12a.

The couple times I did hitchhike back down to New Paltz I had no problem getting a ride. I'm a non-sketchy looking guy. I just need rides to the general area, not a partner. Couldn't we start some sort of NYC-Gunks Ride Share program? I'm sure with these gas prices you wouldn't mind a little extra gas money if you're in a car with 2 empty seats. Eh? Eh? Eh? I'll wear deodorant (at least on the way there), brush my teeth, and change out of horrid smelling wickaway clothes before I get in your car. Any takers? thejoe

You'd have better luck by making a separate thread, so more people see it and it becomes a sort of 'destination thread' for people looking to get up there each weekend. Maybe ball it "The Gunks Rideshare Thread" and people can posts what they can offer or are hoping to find in the way of rides as the days come up. And good luck with it....I think you'll find the theory is easier than reality. But it would be really cool if it took off and became a sort of institution.

Yo. I'm looking for a partner to go to the gunks this weekend. Unfortunately I must label myself as a follower, rather than a leader as I'm new to the sport, but I'm a good follower! Hit me up if you need a partner, need more info, or whatever! Thanks! Neil

Hello. I'm looking to go to New River Gorge or the Adirondacks, Rumney, or anywhere around there for Labor Day weekend. I just want to get out, camp, and climb! Only problem is that I need an experienced, mellow, and safe leader to climb with. I've been climbing for 6 months now, so I suppose that's noobish. However, I love to climb and I'm a good partner. I don't mind driving. Hit me up if you're interested so we can work out the details. Neil

I live in the ADK's. I am always looking for new climbing partners. Im also always up for a road trip to VT, MA, downstate, etc. I prefer shorter challenging routes. I can climb 5.10ish if its the right layout, but I HATE HEIGHTS!!! Anything over 50' does not interest me! Creature wall is my limit height wise. Lemme know.

Hey, I’ll be moving into the North Creek area in the next month and be looking for partners. Prefer long trad routs 5.6 – 5.8 will gun for 9 and 10’s on a good day. Will lead, have rack but would not object to seconding on some harder stuff as well. Realistically any climbing is good climbing. Let me know if anyone is interested. PM or email tommerkt(at)gmail(dot)com

Poor Robroick.... Better to post for partners as a separate thread, to get people's attention. This NY Climbers thread is pretty quiet, unfortunately. But! If anyone IS reading it..... This Sunday, 11/9, is the LAST day of trailwork (with Dick William's crew) for the 2008 season! If you've been thinking "I ought to help...." and never got around to it, here's your last chance til next year. We are working at the trail that goes from the carriage road up to Shockley's Ceiling area. Moving a few big rocks to finish the top and also working along the cliffside area. We meet at the Steel Bridge at 9am and head over. But, if you come late - just look for the large tool box stowed along the carriage road and head on up. We'll finish up about 3pm. Supposed to be going to Brauhaus afterward for beers and burgers as a finale.

Moss Island at Little Falls has 90% of the routes open. There are some spots where the ground is wet such as the Jeff Loves Eileen area, actually very wet and the area of Dogville but areas such as the Dick and Carol and the FP Jones areas are dry. Tomorrow will be in the low to mid 50s with little to no wind. Should be a good day there. Maybe we can catch up there. Dave
