Climbed my first clean 5.10c this weekend (Band Saw in JT). Was pretty stoked. Didn't know the grade til I got down off it.

lets see. i bought climbing shoes. I practiced traversing on my campus wall that doesnt have a traversing route, and i let a total stranger belay me. Can you say beginner? But it was all so fun, although i dont know about the whole tight-as-second-skin shoes thing. Ill get used to it.

I climbed the roof in the gym last night! I've been going to this gym for 1 year and 9 months. I've watched with awe as people have lead the climb and then someone cleans the route dropping into the air for a swinging good time. I seconded and did one heck of a drop; 15 feet or so. It was so much fun, my hand just slipped off the hold and I was falling then sweeping through the air. I didn't even scream. Hopefully this will help me when leading and having that fear of falling. No screaming here, Deb

I finished my first outdoor route. Tiny little VO boulder problem, but it still felt good. No place to go but up... :D

In reply to: i led my first couple 10's in the red this past week. Leading still takes a lot out of me, but i'm trying... Are you talking red river gorge or red outside las vegas? Anyway what were the route names. We've been to RRG last summer. We want to go back and want to hit the red outside of lv sometime too. I need more vacation!!!!!!!

I'm sorry to make this the first post here in a long long time (I mostly just lurk) but I wanted to share :) I finished a 5.11 route clean!! I felt like it's something I should have been able to do long ago but never did so when I finished it, it was a great feeling and a way to say to myself "You're back and better than ever!" (I had been climbing rather sporadically until a few months ago). It's fun to read accomplishments, keep 'em coming :)

Soloed Prodigal Sun last week...everything I have learned preparing came into play and it went off without a hitch. Then I went out Trad climbing a few days later, and my lead head was better than it has ever been. I guess inside I felt like I had earned a new stripe.

Downclimbed a difficult chimney descent 100 ft with no rope at Josh. Went out on the face about 150 ft up exposed with no rope on some lookout overlooking all of Josh.

Did a really scaaaaarrrry rappel the other day...I almost peed myself just lowering down to the cledge where the rappel started. Then, at another time in the day managed to ALMOST pull through the crux of a 5.7. Outdoor. When right now I'm just climbing 5.5s and 6s at the gym. I didn't make it all the way, but next time.... But most of all....got to get outside and climb some real rocks!! K.

I did my first sport lead climb! It was the most amazing feeling in the world. I wasn't scared at all, it was just me and the rock. It was beautiful and pure and I can't wait to do it again!

The best night climbing that i've ever had was two weeks ago. i did two v1's in one night! and i have never been able to finish a v1 ever! but all the climbing that i was doing that night was so fluid and graceful. everything seemed so much closer, and i felt to much taller with an awesome reach. I felt so confident, i ended up climbing for 4 hours. my back and shoulders hurt like there was no tomorrow for the next three days, but it was so worth it! :D

i printed out a calendar marking off the days until i can get on real rock again. 37 days left. oh and bouldering the other night i set a problem that the guys i was climbing with were like "yeah looks easy" (cause *i* could do it) but it was very overhanging with hand foot matches and long, off balance reaches. they all fell off the first few times. i'm not competitive. nope. not at all.

I finally had the courage to lead the roof route at the gym! I made it pretty far, too, before I got confused on which way the route went off to and fell too far to get back on. I think it's rated something like a 5.10. I was so intimidated to go upside down, but I did it! I'm gonna have to go back and finish it now!

I got back outside on limestone for the first time this year - and despite having a tough time (endurance-wise) the first day, the second day was awesome. I got on routes that by the end of the season last year I was getting close to sending - and I breezed through those cruxes on the first go. I can't believe I didn't lose all my strength over the winter like usual. Now I've just got to get my endurance back...

did my first leads, both sport and trad. Interestingly, the sport one was scarier than the trad one...... finished a hard climb for me without whining halfway, which is huge even on toprope. And I've begun pushing myself again. Its been about a year since I've been able to feel comfortable trying harder things, for whatever reason (I have a hunch or two what it may have been), and its just really nice to be enjoying the rock again.

oooooh, i'd have to say leading 5 sport climbs on my recent trip to skaha. My partner made me step up to the plate. it was the most leads i had done in one day. Whew, very exciting day. Practiced my gear placing skills and now i'm ready to try a trad lead this weekend!
