About Beacon Rock:
Beacon Rock is a basaltic andesite volcanic neck or plug. The ice-age floods through the Columbia River Gorger eroded the softer material away, leaving what was once the core of an ancient volcano. --USGS CASCADES VOLCANO OBSERVATORY VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON The rock climbing area of Beacon Rock is closed between February and July for nesting raptors. |

Directions: | FROM VANCOUVER WA: 35 miles east of Vancouver, Washington follow Highway 14, which can be long and winding. Beacon Rock and the park entrance are located at mile post 35. FROM PORLAND OR: Take 84 East to Bridge Of The Gods (toll), make left once in WA, drive 1 mile to park. Parking is now free. |
