Spent saturday at the gym with Nik (tallnik), Canadian guy from around here. Seems he might get me back into a regular training schedule. At least I hope so. BTW, he and another girl from rc.com are eager to climb in Saxony in September. I wanna join them, but we'd need someone to show us around a little. I know my knots, but since I'm such a chicken on lead, it would be a little boring to have me as the single ropegun (more the barrel-burst type of gun...). Anybody around to lead some Elbi-noobs to climbable routes there? If all goes wrong, I already proposed to book Bernd Arnold for a day... Have a nice one! - Daniel

Chtur, Le Sourire de l'Eté is another route apparently to be done on Grand Cap - mostly trad, with lots of route finding, rusty pitons and great granite...

just look at it as a different kind of 'rock'. It can be fun, it's always dry, you can climb in the winter when it keeps wet and freezing outside there. They have coffee.

Did you see the rain the last months? sometimes it's impossible to climb outside. Even with this totally shit weather yesterday, stone and i were climbing outside (sort of) I didn't see plastic for months now, but i would consider it, if the weather stays like this. (Or if i wanted to be in shape again. plastic is good for that )

chrtur, i think they are arguing for the sake of arguing - and why not! I agree that seeing naked (or almost) men in the gym is probably the biggest attraction point there In addition, mine has a slackline, and a chess board, and good snacks, and good people - so no beating that anywhere outside! and i'm one of the usual gym rats since the start of my climbing career - so don't try to convince me - just there are people who unfortunately don't progress as quickly or as far as others - i accept the fact and have fun climbing instead of spending 5 days a week in the gym trying for that next ... (fill in your number there). I do understand the benefits of gym training, like any other training - but again, it's only training...

We all share a good part of our time in the gym - and I truly hope it's not just for the sake of training but because it's fun too! Damn, I enjoy those cold winter days I can spend in the gym, climbing slacklinign (my gym's got a highline!), having a coffee, Sauna and maybe a beer or two afterwards... I just mourn because this effin summer refuses to be on duty. Is it too much to ask for a day or two dry enough to climb real rock - or at least whatever Berlin as in spare outdoors? My training level decreases constantly because I just don't feel like working out in a humid gym at 30°C. Sux big times, honestly. But september comes, comes holidays Have a nice one! - Daniel

hiking is such a good topic for this discussion... so we all agree that outside is better than inside and the gym is for winter and the dutch, right?! I think the point where we still shed the more alpine posse from the boulder-beanie-wearing plastic bunch is the motivation why we move our asses in the vertical. for the traddie folks its the adventure of actually being outside and with the elements. for the mooovers (like petje for example) it doesn't matter where, it's rather what and how and the mooove. if you take the average of both, you will get... me.
