I think its more embarrasing (for me at least) if a very very young climber is totally whooping your butt.

Coming from 1st hand experience (I am a grrl)I love what climbing has done to my body. Guys shouldn't feel intimidated just b/c chicks have muscles. My man is 6'3'' and he is only intimidated b/c he is so LARGE not b/c i have muscles larger than the average female. I enjoy climbing and i will not let BAD SPORTSMANSHIP get ME down. Peace M

Muscle on chick climbers is good, but body building muscles on chick climbers, hmmmm is just not good, not good at all.I do think some guys feel intimidated by some chick climbers and cos of that they then feel the need to be more manly

ALL serious climbers, all sexes, share the love of adrenaline and reep the benefits of a more toned, sleek body. Don't be intimidated by a hard woman climber. It's about proving things to yourself, not others. And remember, it's about grace and style as much as the muscle....

we were just talking about this topic in chat... it seems to be agreed that climbers in general need to maintain a certain "look" to be taken seriously by others (until, of course, you see them climb) someone else, i believe it was pacificrain, made the point that climber guys like their climbergirls to stay kind of delicate... personally, i've found that i've become more "girly" since i started climbing... because i'm not a fragile little waif....

I just wanted to add my last two exes were, as xgretax put it, waifs. It's a phase, I'm over it, and now I'm looking for someone that I don't feel like I'll break in half if I poke too hard...

Feet . . . HAHAHAHAHAH! I was poking my friend the other night (he's 5'2" and has he puts it, weighs as the limit approaches 120) and got into an arm wrestling match and I was just holding my arm out and he was trying with all his might. Finally I was like, "That's it, I can't do this . . ." good thing I still have climbing partners who can whip my mushy attempts.

I like chicks who climb... i like them tone and all. I don't have a problem with them, in fact i respect them and love them, especially those who can kick my ass. To all those who DO have a problem with climbing chicks who are tone and muscular and better than them... go see a doctor. NOW... I MEAN IT..

well greta, i'm not sure if guys like "waifs" but that's certainly what society (magazines, evil media plots, etc) want us to think. therefore when we bulk up a tad and hear "don't get any bigger" we assume that they want us to be 100lb rakes. don't get me wrong, i'm fine with how i am now, but i keep hearing "don't do weights" and "you're strong enough now" i know technique accounts for a lot, but how am i supposed to get better? maculated: i can only beat one of my climbing buddies in an arm wrestle. would you like to borrow the others?

I'm inspired by them... Women tend to climb much more gracefully, and use more static techniques. This is how I try to climb, so I'm inspired by women who climb well. Not only are women beautiful, they climb beautifully. rrrADAM

Just my own thoughts about this. When I think of a girl who is 'muscular' I think of a body builder. I think that girls who climb defintely have more muscle than girls who don't, but it's more like toned muscle. Not the bulging biceps, neck, back, etc... I saw a girl at the Red last time I went and she had bigger thighs than the guys I climb with. And two of them are powerlifters! She had huge arms and muscles popping out of her back; which to me looked a little too manly. The people I climb with dig climber chicks with toned muscle, but even they thought she was a bit too extreme.

xgretax, My girlfriend dosent climb, and she is no waif. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. As far as what men find attractive, I have found women in all shapes and sizes to be attractive, wether they climb or not.

I have to say that I am intimidated by a chick that can climb better than I can. Granted taht would be just about any girl that climbs. But I do not get pissed or otherwise out of control. Instead I try to make friends with them so I can hang with them and climb with them... so that I might learn from their female style. It has been my experience all through school and even at the climbing gyms that chicks still do not have the upperbody strength that most guys do. So I see them make up for it with technique. A chick that can teach me somethign is damn sexy to me. So if a guy has a hangup like not being able to deal with a climber chick that is better than him... I think that he might not be a true climber Luke

this has to be the worst topic I've seen on here... and it makes the featured topic? Why can't a girl be muscular (perhaps looking a lil manly) and STILL be a good climber. The introduction to this topic is as bad as saying "what defines the line between good climber and he looks like a wimp?" And whose to say looking "manly" is a bad thing. I, personally, do not find the bigger girls as attractive as others but that plays absolutly no role in how I judge them, especially as a climber. Disapointing topic [ This Message was edited by: inklein on 2002-04-24 09:05 ]

Read. The question is not "can a female can be muscular and still be a good climber", nor is it "how do men feel when a woman can climb better" It's based upon society's view of how women should be waifs, conflicting with the physique that naturally develops from climbing. Quote: What justifies using the sport you love in common against them? i think the gentlemen on the site have expressed opinions and answered my question that they are attracted to the "climber chick physique" no matter what society says, which is great.

Not only am I attracted to the "climber chick physique," I think that women who climb have better looking bodies than women in any other sport. The way that climbing shapes a woman's arms and back is very attractive. -Jay

well i wouldn't say it's the worst post ever made....but i do agree with the idea of what actually determines or defines too manly, too wimpy etc. we all are built differently and what one may consider as bulky and manly may not appear that way to another. as stated before woman naturally do not produce enough testoterone to create the muscular size that men can acquire. on another view.....at what point does a man become too muscular. some may say the grossly overdefined muscle and bulk is just as unattractive on a man. personally muscle bound men are a big turn off to me. In addition, as if women aren't freaked enough about our bodies....too fat, too short, to skinny, to tall....now too strong and muscular. it's a wonder woman have any confidence at all. my thoughts are do what is right for you if you want to get killer ripped then so be it and don't let anyone tell your going to bulk up or you're strong enough already. I lift weights and train hard 5 days a week so i can be strong and confident most importantly.
