Canada Cliffs, yes. And I was being completely facetious about Otter Cliffs. I wouldn't have climbed that for my first time if I'd been shoved off with a rope attached. No way, no how. It is pretty touristy though, which is fun to some degree. I love the staples at the top...can you say overkill??

Actually, the climbing at Otter is pretty decent, but one does have to consider the various obstacles / annoyances. It was the first place that I climbed in Acadia after I came back from grad school, though I've never ventured off the Wonder Wall. If it weren't for the tourists, I would venture to say that it might be one of the best places to climb on the whole island. I dunno, something about seacliffs kind of interest me. Still, it isn't optimal for many reasons, and that is a bit unfortunate. Greg

Great Head is some amazing sea cliff climbing, too. Morning Glory rocks. You should give it a shot sometime!

None of us knew that the cliffs were actually cliffs, despite the fact that we knew it was the tallest promontory on the east coast and we had grown up seeing the cliffs both from land and sea.

I made two free on-line guides for two areas in western mass, Rose and the Hideaway, you could link those in. Also there are a few random routes on the Rose page that don't exist, or are just made up names for established routes. You can check them vs. the guides. My guides were written based off of the out of print Rubin guide, New England Bouldering, and lots of talk with the locals. The guides are at http://www.drtopo.com, print them out as doubled sided folded half-sheet guides. Print the odd pages first, then flip these over and feed them back into the printer and print the even pages, staple in the middle then fold.

Hey guys, Another post on Lover's Leap is up. Sorry it took so long. Hope you enjoy this, though I have to say that I don't think it is one of my more exciting posts. I had to be creative to add interest this time. Greg

I have a stupid wedding I have to attend. Stupid, because I really don't want to go, but I have to attend it because I've been a friend to the girl for 2 years.

Hopefully she can't track you down on the interweb! For a person who is a computer program manager, she's pretty computer illiterate. ~ sucks, but it's the truth.

Though the Mt. Whitney trailhead is at 8,600'. Your parking lot mountain is well below the valley floor. You should *cough* climb Cannon and bag that peak in style.

For marginal weather, Cannon saw a lot of traffic yesterday. At least 4 parties headed up Whitney G and 2 or 3 hit Moby Grape. We were of the Whitney G bent after the soaking the rock received overnight, thinking the crack needed some time to dry. Good times on WG though, including: --a party ahead of us bailing --loud rumbles that were not trucks or motorcycles on the highway --dodging rain drops --playing leap frog with a party behind us as we all try to outrun the rain and rumbles --pepperoni snack at the sunny summit (thanks R & C!) --sloshing to the base while the skies opened up for real (hey, at least my ropes got cleaned) --the sight of the parking lot While we had originally planned to do Moby Grape this weekend, I'm happy to have done WG and lead the pitched I'd followed last time.

Jen ---Good job on WGR! Good to hear you were able to get up it before the weather really hit. We were thinking about getting up early and skidding up WGR. However, we experienced the most violent thunderstorm it has ever been my "pleasure" to be outdoors in, while cowering at the base of the Duet Buttress on Friday afternoon. As a result, we had little desire to head up WGR and take the chance of getting whacked again. Chickened out, hung out at breakfast and then hit Rumney to clip bolts close to the car until it hit the fan again about 2:30 PM. Bagged it then and headed home for the weekend given the forecast for Sunday. Ahh! The joys of climbing during T-storm season!!! --- Bill

A long time coming, but another post on Lover's Leap is up. I have two more posts after this (the last day and a summary - likely a bit controversial), and then this trip report(s) is(are) finished. I also owe a report on our WG climb on Sat. It was an adventure for sure. I hope to write that Thursday. Enjoy... Greg

In reply to: likely a bit controversial Greg --- I don't do controversy well! Could you provide a NC-rated (non-controversial) version? Have enjoyed the write ups. Would love to get out there someday! BTW Ed and I have decided to hit Acadia on a Thursday on our way to Katahdin. Blackwoods is closed out. Any recommendations regarding camping? --- Thanks Bill
